three years have tried every remedy ou (lie
market for stomach and kidney disorders,
hut got no relief, until I used Electric hitlers.
Took five bottles and am now cured, and 1
think Electric bitters the best blood purifier
in the world.” Major A. B. Reeil, of West
Liberty, K.v., used Electric bitters for an old
standing kidney affection and says: “Nolli-

tric hitters.” Hold at fifty cents a bottle by L.

The llrphzlbsh Association.
This body convened in our city on the 15th
Inst., and was organized by re-electing the old
officers, W. L. Kilpatrick, moderator, W. M.
Vordery, clerk and II. II. Hickman, treasur
er. We learn that the first organization of
tills association took place at Big Bnckhead
church, In this county, September, 1703, nine
ty years ago. Though almost one hundred
years old It seems still to have all the vigor of
youth. May it live many nineties yet, and
still grow younger instead of older,—that is
younger In its efficiency and usefulness.
A Baptist association Is not an appellate
court to which cases are brought up from be
low; nor Is It a law-making body, legislating
for a constituency below. On the contrary,
the individual churches aro the highest tri
bunals known to our Baptist friends, and also
each church codifies, so to speak, for Itself
laws, as found in the Now Testament; their
policy is purely democratic, and to a certain
extent theocratic, if we may use such a word.
Tho association is not much else than an ad
visory council, at a general committee of cer
tain churches, for gathering together contri
butions made for benevolent purposes, and
distributing the same.
The representation was not so largo as usual,
owing as wo suppose to the fact that its mem
bership is composed almost exclusively of a
farming people, and the work was unusually
good for gathering cotton—an opportunity to
be utilized aftorso much unfavorable weather.
All the members appeared to address them
selves with diligence to the business of the
body and none were seen wandering about
the streets when duty called them elsewhere.
Missions, .Sabbath schools, temperance, min
isterial, education, and other important sub
jects were all duly considered. On the sub
ject of prohibition, the association spoke with
no uncertain sound, and if all tlie state acted
as these good people spoke, or if even all the
Ilapthtx of tlie state—(for lliey are a host) tho
days of tlie sale of intoxicating liquors in
Georgia would soon he numbered. Our merry
“commercial tourists” with sample cases of
brandy, old bourbon, would bo compelled to
turn their attention to lioelng cotton or dig
ging potatoes fora living.
Tho association, it seems from the report of
the executive committee, is educating for tlie
ministry Rev. W. R. Cox, of Augusta. Wc
understand that he is a very worthy young
man, and bids fair to be useful if lie Is so for
tunate as to receive an education. We judge
from the report read by the above committee
that but very few of the churohes liavo been
doing their whole duty in raising funds for
the above purpose, and we are left to infer
that these derelict churches prefer either an
uneducated minister, or else that others should
bear the expense of the education.
Tlie subject ot dividing the association, so
as to make two of it, was brought before the
body, but It appeared to meet, with very little
favor, and we suppose from what wo heard
that tlie day for a division is far away In tlie
distant future, unless some reasons not now
existing shad be developed.
But few visiting ministers were present,
among tlieso was the venerable and much
loved J. II. DoVotie. His visits are always
welcomed by every one, both saint and sinner.
Tho closing exorcises of tho association con
sisted in tlie delivery of tlie mission sermon
on Sabbath morning, by Rev. W. M. Vordery,
of Richmond county. This was done before
a very large and appreciative audience, at 11
o’clock a. m. Never have we known*the
speaker to appear to bettor advantage; never
liavo wo known tho subject handled in a
more masterly manner. Tlie association lias
come and gone. Wo were pleased with It,
and it seemed equally well pleased witli us.
