rate soldier will regret to hear of
the death of Gen. MeClelans, ns
he commanded the respect of the
Southern soldiery to a greater ex

contact with the Southern arms.

The Sullivan Bros.issued the first
number of the first paper ever print
ed anti published in Milieu, Ga.,
on last Wednesday evening. The
new paper is named The Central
Beacon, and is a handsome five col
umn, eight-page paper, and fills “a
long felt want” in that section.—
And while the Beacon, owing to the
confusion of material and the rush
of getting out the first paper, was
not in its initial number what the
publishers are determined to make
it, they feel^grateful to a generous
public for the kindly reception
which it received, and to the enter
prising business men of Milieu for
the liberal advertising patronage
extended to it. The uew|paper sets
out with most flattering prospects,
and the publishers are determined
to merit the good opinion and pat
ronage of the public by making the
/ieaconjtbeequal of the best country
paper published in the state.
A special to the Atlanta Constitu
tion brings the intelligence that
Colonel E. C. Wade, United States
marshal for tlio southern district of
Georgia has sent ids resignation to
the president. His reasons for tak
ing this step are of a private na
ture. Colonel Lucius M. Lamar
will probably ho appointed to suc
ceed Wade.
The reasons for Wade’s resigna
tion, which are stated to be private,
are so evidently political as not to
mislead the dullest comprehension.
The fact is, Cleveland’s miserable
civil service policy by which he
has stultified and ruined the Dem
ocratic party, has disgusted the
Republicans, and the shrewd poli
ticians of that party are withdraw
ing their men from the offices which
Cleveland in the contemptible atti
tude of a supplicant is, as it were,
on his knees begging these Radicals
to remain. Wade’s resignation is an
other one of the scathing, blistering
rebukes which the Democratic ad
ministration has so often and so
complacently brooked during the
short period of time since his inau
guration.
