Fine Syrup.
We reoolved a largo pitcher full of fine syrup
from Mr. Thomas qulnney, and although re
quested to say nothing about it in our col
umns, deem It a duty to do so, as it shows not
only what this county, but tills whole section
of tlio state can do, and It may induce some
one to give tills Industry a fair trial,
which we know means success. This syrup
was made from the best ribbon cane, and is
better than any ot the refined syrups, wo care
not bow high-sounding name Is given it.—
Now, when wo know that from this latitude
clear to the seaboard, and on a lino crossing
the state, covering a million or more acres,
can be liiudu to compete with Florida, Louisi
ana, or even Cuba, in tho production of syrup
and sugar, we are astonished that our farm
ers, all, neglect to take advantage of this
might tie Important Industry.
BWlille we have said so often that our clim
ate anil soil will produce anything, that it
seems to be folly to repeat it, we must be al
lowed to say that there Is not a better rice or
sugar growing county on the face of the globe
than the largo area of the state mentioned
above. Could our tanners be uwakened to
their own Interests and turn tliolr attention
to these and other equally profitable and use
ful crops tho value of land would enhance
5U0 per cent in five yenrs. To our funner read
ers, we say, when you read the above para

will abandon the production of cotton, nnd
turn your attention to other crops, more prof
