The Survival of the Fittest.
WAYNESBORO OA„ JANUARY 8. lHStl.
Dr. Joseph A. Eve died nt
his home in Augusta on Wednes-j
day evening, in the 81st year of his
age. In his death Augusta loses an
old and honored citizen and a fa
mous physician. The news of Dr.
Eve’s death will carry sorrow with
it to many a heart.
“ The subject of evolution is
creating a great deal of noise and
excitement among the South Caro
lina Presbyterians. This, in our
humble judgment, is all wrong;
for if a man wishes to claijn that
the monkey tribe is Ids ancestors
he certainly has the right to do so
unmolested in this free country.
C0T The papers inform us that
John Kelly is no longer the “boss”
of the Naw York Tammany Hall
Democracy, to which we say amen.
Kelley defeated the national De
mocracy in more than one presi
dential campaign by his manipula
tion of the Tammany Hall Democ
racy, and would have beaten
Cleveland but for the waning of
his influence. We greet the news
of his retirement from the leader
ship of Tammany as the best we
have heard for a long time.
What Can lie Done.
By trying again and keeping up
courage many tilings seemingly im
possible may be attained. Ilun-
dredsof hopeless cases of kidney and
liver complaint have been cured by
Electric Bitters, after everything
else had been tried in vain. So,
don’t think there is no cure for you,
but try Electric Bitters. There is
no medicine so safe, so pure, and so
perfect a blood purifier. Electric
Bitters will cure dyspepsia, diabetes
and all diseases of the kidneys. In
valuable in affections of stomach
and liver, and overcome all urinary
difficulties. Large bottles only 50

Atlanta Constitution.
Yesterday (Friday) the argument
on the Geo. T. Jackson embezzle
ment case was concluded in the
supreme court. J. C. C. Black
opened the argument in favor of
Jackson, and was followed by .So
licitor-General Boykin Wright, who
spoke for the prosecution. Mr. II.
Clay Foster closed for Jackson.
The question propounded by the
court during the argument, seemed
to indicate that nice technicalities
and fine theoretical distinctions as
a means of defense were not favor
ed by the court. The policy seem
ed to be to hear and decide the
substance of the case and to render
a judgment on the real merits,
rather than on technicalities. It is
pretty well agreed among those
who heard tiie argument that the
decision will be against Jackson,
and that lu* will have to goto the
penitentiary.
