Upon motion ofJudgeJ.B. Jones,
the following resolutions were unan
imously adopted:
Whereas, The Hon. George T.
Barnes, now the representative for
this 10th congressional district in
the present congress, has honestly
and honorably discharged every
public trust committed to him;
whether in the*ficld of national or
state politics, and In his present
office has displayed a proper sense
of his official obligation by a dili
gent inquiry into the wants of the
people and the prompt attention to
them.
Resolved, That it is the sense of
this convention, that the interest of
the district cannot be better served,
than by his retention in its service,
and, we hope, that the convention
to assemble on the 15th in Augusta,
to nominate a candidate to repre
sent this district in the next con
gress, may concur with us and place
him in nomination. And, in this
expression of opinion, we believe
that we represent the feelings and
Wishes of the whole people of Burke
couuty.
Resolved, That to communicate
these views to tlie approaching con
vention, in Augusta, and carry out
our purpose as herein expressed,
that this convention now appoint
through its chairman, six delegates
to represent Burke county iu said
convention.
The chairman appointed tho fol
lowing delegates to-wit: J. J.
Jones, If. IT. Perry, J. 11. Mackenzie,
E. 11. Callaway, Abram Chance and
J. B. Jones.

morning. In the first race Mr. W.
McCathern entered Dandy Jim,
and Maj. W. A. Wilkins entered

The closing exercises of Telfair-
villo academy, this county, will take
