this coach was instantly killed.
Scores were scalded by steam es

the kitchen on the diner.
The terror and turmbil of the scene
w r as indescribable. Many of those
who escaped death by the first impact
were crushed by the rear coaches
hurled upon the wreckage.
The wreckage took fire from the
coals of the engine, but was extin

It was some time after the wreck
had occurred before a word of it
reached the outside world. As soon
as one of the uninjured trainmen

word of the wreck was flashed to

The accident was one of the most

GEORGIA WINS FIGHT.
Supreme Court Decision In Copper
Plant Litigation.
Atlanta, May 14. —Georgia has won
by a decision of the United States su
preme court a great fight waged
against the Tennessee Cooper com
pany and the Ducktown Sulphur and
Copper company of Isabella and Duck
town, Term., just across the Georgia
state line, the object of which was
to put an end to ttieir present system
of smelting copper ore, the result of
which is the dissemination of large
quatitios of sulphurous gases which
are not only considered detrimental to
health, but have already been slowly
but surely destroying all vegetation
and forestry within a radius of 50 mlies
and extending 'down into eight or ten
north Georgia counties.
It has been several years since this
litigation was begun directly in the
supreme court in accordance with
constitutional provision which gives
that tribunal jurisdiction, and in the
meantime the destruction has been
increasing from year to year, until
it hag seriously affected the country
for a distance of 40 miles to the south
of the Tennessee state line.
The decision of the supreme court
of the United States, however, will
put a prompt and emphatic end to
this destruction, as it orders both
of 'these companies to cease their
present method of smelting the cop- (
per ores. In other words, it is,
as Georgia asked, a prohibition
against any form of smelting such
ores as will result in the dissemina
tion of these noxious and destructive
gases.

TROLLEY CAR DYNAMITED.
Outrage Perpetrated in the Outskirts
of Montgomery, Ala.
Montgomery, Ala., May 11. —At
midnight Friday a car of the Mont
gomery Traction company in the ex
treme southern edge of the city, hit a
stick of dynamite and was completely
shattered, portions of the car being
blown 100 feet from the track.
The motorman and conductor,
brothers, named Brunsen, were in
jured. Only one passenger was on
the car, a negro, who escaped un
hurt.
This is believed to be an echo of
the strike of street car employes. For
three weeks the cars have been oper
ated normally, by strike breakers,
with periodic outbreaks of violence.
Early Friday night a number of fire
hooks, used on locomotives, were
taken from a railroad round house and
pinned to tracks of the car company
in North Montgomery. They were
discovered before damage was done.
