Buick Body Construction
In constructing its open car bodies, Buick usea
bolts in fastening the metal braces to the wood,
instead of ordinary screws. These bolts pass
ing completely through the wooden frame
prevent joints from loosening under driving
strains. A more than usual number of bolts
secure the Buick body to the chassis, holding
it rigidly in position and entirely eliminating
aJi squeaks and rattles.

“How far is it?" is the . es
tion the prospective buyer the
real estate man who wants %,%j show
him a suburban home or a farm.
He doesn’t w tnt to know how far
it is in miles, however. He wants to
know in minutes or hours. “It is
thirty minutes from the corner of
Main and State Streets" tells the
story. “It is seven miles out" does not
For “seven miles” may mean seventy
minutes, if the road is poor, whereas
“thirty minutes” is definite.
A man has only so much time to
spend. He can not add to the num
ber of minutes in a day, or the num
ber of days in his life. Therefore, he
wants to use as few of his minutes in
nonproductive, unnecessary, and un
profitable effort as possible.
It is for this reason he wants to
know the distance from his new home
and his office or business in terms of
time. And it is for this reason he
wants to locate on a good road, for
only the good read can cut down his
time, without increasing his cost! The
railroad can serve only a limited num
ber of suburban towns on any c ;
line, and its trains can run only so
often. He must waste time wuh T ./
for them, going to and from them at
both end 3, suit his convenience to the
schedule. With the good road he
makes his own schedule, often beats
it in convenience in leaving home, get
ting into his conveyance, and getting
out at or close to his place of busi
ness.
The good road . . . plus the motor
. . . is translated in terms of time, and
not distance, because it is time we
have to spend, and time in which we
have to live; it is only the amount of
time consumed which counts, and not
the mere number of feet or miles trav
eled in that time.
The man who is laughed at today
is revered tomorrow. They laughed
at Bell and his telephone, Edison and
his electric light, and Langiey with
his crazy flying machine. The Wright
brothers were derided, the discoverer
of X rays was ridiculed, and the
“radio delusion” brought srail93 and
amusement.
But not now.
It is as impossible for us to say,
now, what the road of the future is to
be, as it was impossible for us to say
five years ago, what the radio broad
cas otf today would be.
An inventor wants to interest cap
ital in making a roadway of steel. It
will cost, if built, not thousands, but
several hundreds of thousands of dol
lars per mile. Road builders laugh.
The public laughs. We all laugh. Why
pay three hundred thousand dollars
a mile for road when we can get them
for a few thousands?
Twenty years ago the idea of pay
ing twenty-five thousand dollars a
mile for road was laughed at!
This steel idea may be all wrong
It hasn’t been tried. It may be chim
erical in the extreme. We don’t
know. But we do know that laughing
at it because its different os no way
to prove it idiotic. Ten years ago
people laughed at the idea of national
highways. They don’t laugh any more
More and more people are coming to
think that highways are as much a
part of the Nation’s business as water
ways, Panama Canal, battleships or
army.
The new idea is always laughed at.
Laughter doesn’t prove anything ex
cept the “stand-pat mind” of the laugh
er. Maybe steel roads at three hun
r dred thousand dollars a mile are im
practical. But why not bring some
thing else to bear on the question be
sides laughter? Nobody laughs at
national highways any more; not ev
en Congress!
The joke of yesterday is the fact of
today. Maybe we will yet ride on nat
ional highways of steel! They laugh
ed at steel rails for locomotives, too.
They laugher l at transcontinental high
ways. And how they did laugh at De
Lesseps and his Panama Canal.
He laughs best who laughs last.

What the Public
Should Know
About Cancer
Prepared for Publication by the Can
cer Commission of the Medical As
sociation of Georgia and the Geor
gia Division of the Americrji S*«iety
for the Control of Cancer.
WARNING NO. 4
In the previous communications we
have spoken of cancers as occurring
in those of mature life and old age,
but there is a form that attacks even
young children and babies; in fact,
It may be present in a baby at birth.
This form of cancer is known as
“sarcoma.”
It arises in certain organs of the
body more often than in others. Seme
times it is found in or between the
muscles and in the bones and joints.
The lymph glands may be primarily
involved. There are many varieties of
sarcoma; some are much more malig
nant than others; some grow very
rapidly and yield to no treatment;
others grow slowly and do not recur
when removed.
Sarcoma spreads from the primary
thmor to distant parts of the body by
means of blood stream. The cells
grow into the vessels which pass thru
the tumor, are broken off, and then
carried to the lungs, the liver, brain,
and, in fact, any part of the body. As
soon as a turner is discovered, consult
your doctor. Let him take the respon
sibility.
Sarcoma occurs in the jaws, around
the joints, and in the long bones. A
very careful study is necessary to
make a diagnosis, but once it is made
extensive and radical means should be
used in the treatment.
In closing this series, we wish to
urge those who have any suspicious
symptoms to consult a physician. If
he is not sure, have a consultation. Do
not put off seeing a, doctor. It may
cost you your life.
Georgia State College
Buys a Great Bull
Pabst King Segis Clover, the best
bred Holstein bull ever shipped south
and among tlie best in America, has
just been purchased by the Gaorgia
State College of Agriculture from
Pabst Holstein Farms, to head the
excellent herd mantained on the Col
lege Farm at Athens.
We are advised by Dr. Milton P. Jar
nagia that the sire of this bull is
King Segis Aleartra Prilly, six times
Grand Champion and undefeated in the
show ring. In addition to being of the
type th t wins in the shows, he has
demonstrated his ability to transmit
production by siring three World’s
record daughters, which is more than
can be claimed of any other living
bull. His first four first-calf daugh
ters average over 1,000 lbs. of butter
for hte year nad two of his year old
daughters have produced over 27,000
lbs, of milk in the year.
The dam is daughter of Creator with
23.12 lbs of butter and 469 lbs, of milk
to her credit in seven days as a Jer
sey two-year old. She in turn is out
of the best daughters of King Pon
tiac Campion, with 35 pounds of but
ter to her credit in seven days.
Many authorities look upon Creator
as one of the most premising young
sires of the present day. His first
forty daughters have made a higher
average on seven day tests than the
daughters to comelte two-year old
records include one heifer that pro
duced 1,115 pounds of butter and a
senior yearling that produced 948
pounds of butter in the year. The en
tire lot averaged 814 lbs. of butter and
over 17,000 pounds of milk.
The four nearest tested dams of the
calf just purchased averaged 39.63
pounds of butter in seven days. The
number of records above 30-pounds of
butter in seven days and above 1,000
pounds in 365 days indicate that this
young bull will transmit most grati
fying production. His individuality
and the show ring achievements of the
animals back of him indicate equally
as well that he will sire stock of pleas
ing type.

WHAT IS AN AUTOMOBILE FOR?
Automobiles are made to conveniently and quickly carry peo
ple and property from one place to another.
WHAT IS MOTOR CAR VALUE —Motor car value is best
described as the car which will do this service satisfactorily and
at the least possible cost. In computing cost you have got to
figure what the car cost to begin with, that is the purchase price
and the cost of operation, including upkeep, gasoline and oils.
CHEAPNESS NOT ALWAYS ECONOMY.—Car which
cost the least to begin with is not necessarily the most economical
to own and operate. Neither is cheapness of replacement parts
complete evidence of economy of operation. Constantly being in
the shop and the consistent use of repair parts will soon overcome
differences which might exist on account of initial cost.
“ECONOMICAL TRANSPORTATION’" Is the slogan adopt
ed by The Chevrolet Motor Co., for their new Superior model car
recently placed on the market. In this car you have combined—
First low cost to begin with—that is the purchase price is very
reasonable indeed. Then—the cost of operation extended over a
distance of ten thousand miles and upward is the lowest by test
of' any car on the American market, and in this test differences
in initial cost was considered. Twenty five miles to the gallon of
gas and five hundred miles to a quart of oil is not infrequent. Re
pair parts are not often needed but when required will be found
very reasonable in price.
