A brighter Christmas
A band of Burke County volunteers helped make Christmas brighter for 20 Burke
County families. The volunteers pooled their resources and manpower to provide
meals and toys for nearly 40 area children. The effort was spearheaded by 25 Men of
Burke County with the assistance of American Legion Post 270, Phillip Grove Baptist
Church, Noah’s Ark Baptist Church, Unique Trucking Club, OMI, O&G Game Room,
Harvey’s Supermarket, CSRA EOA and Isabelle Harper.
Long time coming
A writer with Burke County ties has found fame in Gwinnett
County. Mary Long, wife of former Girard resident Dean
Long, has published another book, “About Lawrenceville”.
In her writings, she reminisces about growing up amidst
the patrons in her father’s general store and helping at her
mother’s florist shop. The retired school teacher blends
those memories with Lawrencevilie’s rich history, pulling
information from old newspaper articles and interviews
with the city’s oldest residents. The book is published by
Southern Lion Books.
