Thanks and giving
Thanksgiving got better for 23 Burke County families. Last Wednesday, volunteers like Waynesboro City
Councilman James “Chick” Jones and Connie Sheppard, pictured, delivered turkeys and the trimmings to
local families in need.The food drive and giveaway were sponsored by Phillips Grove Missionary Baptist
Church Mana Ministry, Burke County EOA, 25 Men of Burke County, Burke County Board of Education
Transportation Department, Just-N-Kase LLC and volunteer Rosemary Hamilton. The groups plan to de
liver more food to families this Christmas and are asking for donations of food, money and manpower.

Gingerbread streetscape on display at First National

The gingerbread rendition
of downtown Waynesboro is
headed back this way.
The sugary streetscape cre
ated by Jennifer Mooney of
Pineland Bakery was pur
chased by First National Bank
of Waynesboro in an auction
held at the Augusta Museum
of History.
Mooney’s creation, a gin
gerbread version of the bank,
Good Day Cafe and First
Burke Insurance, earned first
place honors in the museum’s
annual contest. All of the en
tries were sold in a silent auc
tion that ended Sunday.
According to Nan Palmer
Lynch of First National, the
bank paid $301 for Mooney’s
project and will display it in
the bank lobby when it is
brought back to Waynesboro
later this week.
