By Anne Marie Kyzer
annemariek@thetruecitizen.com
A Sardis burglar was sen
tenced to probation for entering
an apartment during the middle
of the night.
Deaundry Walker, 20, pleaded
guilty to one count of burglary
Monday for the July 2008 inci
dent at a Bargeron Avenue apart
ment complex in Sardis.
The residents had awakened
to find Walker in their apartment
attempting to remove a video
game system. When the couple
confronted Walker, he threat
ened the young woman and left.
Sardis police arrested Walker
when he later returned to the
complex. A search revealed a
small amount of marijuana in his
front pocket and a screwdriver
in his back pocket.
Defense attorney Daniel Greg
Leopard said Walker has been
treated for mental illness and
was not taking his medication at
the time.
Superior Court Judge Sheryl
B. Jolly sentenced Walker to five
years of probation, with the first
year under intensive supervi
sion. JJe must also continue
treatment for depression, take
his medication and submit to
regular drug screens. Walker,
who has no prior felony crimi
nal history, was sentenced as a
first offender.
Additional charges of terror
ist threats and possession of
marijuana were dropped in the
plea negotiation.

A Waynesboro man was
jailed for holding his ex-girl-
friend hostage inside a Mag
nolia Acres apartment.
According to a report filed
at the Waynesboro Police De
partment, Mario Darnell
(Scott) Hughes was charged
with aggravated stalking and
false imprisonment last Mon
day after the victim escaped
through a bedroom window
and ran to a neighbor for help.
She told police that Hughes,
who was out on bond from a
previous family violence ar
rest, took her cell phone and
held her against her will for
nearly 22 hours. He allegedly
pushed her down by the head
repeatedly, the report said,
and told her if he couldn’t
have her then nobody would.
The victim’s two young
children were inside the
apartment during the entire
incident, resulting in misde
meanor child cruelty charges
for Hughes.
He had more charges
slapped on him after he got to
jail. Officers found four small
baggies of marijuana inside
his shoes and arrested him for
possession of marijuana and
possession of prohibited
items behind the guard line.

Carnivore
A Waynesboro man has been arrested, once again, for steal
ing meat.
Kenneth Bernard Johnson, 42, was jailed for running from
Wal-Mart with ribeye and porterhouse steaks stashed inside
his jacket.
It wasn’t Johnson’s first carnivorous crime.
In July he was arrested for concealing seven packages of
meat in his pants and hiding from police in a field near Burger
King. In 2007, he was jailed for making two trips to Harveys
in a single day and hiding steak in his pants both times.
He now faces parole violation charges as well.
Hot seat
A Kingston Drive woman called the heat after she found
flames in her garage.
According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police De
partment, the woman stepped outside around 8 p.m. last Fri
day to find a lawn chair burning.
She put out the flames without any damage to her house and
said she has no idea who would have done such a thing.
Autocrimes
Thieves are having a heyday with parked cars.
Two Waynesboro residents reported their cars stolen right
out of their yards, and a host of other drivers, including several
visiting for the holidays, reported belongings stolen from glove
boxes, backseats and pickup beds.
According to reports filed at the Waynesboro Police Depart
ment, a car was stolen from a Fourth Street home on Monday,
and an SUV was stolen last Tuesday from Briarwood Apart
ments. The SUV was found the next day on East Eighth Street.
