Suspected burglar gets more charges

A man arrested for burglaries
in Burke and Jenkins Counties
has been charged with three
more thefts.
Henry Mick Leonard McGee,
30, was originally arrested last
month after officers found him
with rare coins and guns that
were stolen in recent burglaries.
According to Sgt. Dan Lowe,
an investigator for the Burke
County Sheriff’s Office, McGee
was charged with an additional
count of theft by receiving after
a Remington shotgun found in
his house was matched with a
burglary on Fred Chance Road
in Perkins.
Two more theft by receiving
charges were filed after a sleigh
bed taken in a Twin Lakes bur
glary was found in McGee’s
bedroom, and a stolen lawn
mower was found out back.
Meanwhile, Richmond
County officers say McGee ap
pears to be tied to additional bur
glaries and thefts in at least four
counties.
According to Investigator
Wesley Stallings, his department
was alerted last week when a
resident attempting to buy a Po
laris wrote down the serial num
bers and discovered it had been
stolen from Jenkins County. The
investigation led them to CEO
Customs, an auto work shop off
Wrightsboro Road, where two
stolen pull-behind trailers,
ATVs, computers, guns and
electronics were found.

Dogfighting suspected in gory death of pit bull
By Elizabeth Billips
lizbillips@yahoo.com
Burke County deputies are
trying to figure out who
dumped a pit bull that appears
to have been killed in a dog
fight.
Monday morning, a black
and white female dog wearing
a very wide white Nylon collar
was discovered along the side
of Cates Mead Road.
According to Investigator
Dan Lowe, she suffered numer
ous injuries including a pos
sible broken neck, broken leg
and multiple bites on her neck.
He also said one of her nipples
appears to have been cut off.
The dogs’ top teeth were
filed close to the gums, lead
ing investigators believe she
was used as a "bait dog” for
training fighting dogs.
Evidence suggests the dog
was killed someplace else and
dumped on Cates Mead Road.
