Harden and Curtis Barber
scored in double digits as
well, racking up 15 and 14
points, respectively. They
both sank shots from the
three-point arch. Sophomore
Paul Atwell added 9 points.
“The guys are playing re
ally hard and playing to
gether, and I think that’s im
portant,” head coach Purvis
Dukes said. “The crowd sup

among the players.”

Lady Bears claim second win
By Anne Marie Kyzer
annemariek @ thetruecitizen .com
The Lady Bears didn’t let his
tory repeat itself against Jenkins
County this year.
Burke County High School’s
girls basketball team grounded
the Lady Eagles 71-47 last Satur
day in Millen. The win marked
the second win the Lady Bears
have taken over Jenkins County
this season.
The Burke County girls re
versed a trend from last year,
when they recorded two narrow
losses to the Lady Eagles.
Three Lady Bears scored in
double digits, and Eddriss Miles
picked up her first double-double
of the year with 17 points and 15
rebounds.
Antomia Walker led the team
in scoring with 18 points, and also
grabbed 8 rebounds. Alexus Gor
don added 10 points to the board.
Head coach Angelica Collins
applauded the energy she saw
from her team in the second half
of the game but wants to see that
action in the first as well.
“I am extremely pleased with
the effort I am receiving from my
girls,” she said. “However I am
concerned about the slow start in
the first half. Against a bigger and
better team, it will cost us. I just
want to start and finish strong."
The Lady Bears will be tested
against larger teams this week
end. Burke County will travel to
Sylvania to take on Screven
County Friday and host Baldwin
High on Saturday for their first
region game.

“They are doing really good and
representing Burke County with
