Walkway through time
The Old Fella statue at the Waynesboro park now has a gateway
from Liberty Street. “I hope this will serve as a lasting memorial,”
said Richard Daniel, owner of the late Old Fella and founder of the
animal rescue group named in the dog’s honor. “My dream is that
for generations to come, people will know about Old Fella, the orga
nization and how widespread its work has become.”The walkway is
lined with 70 bricks, including 45 engraved ones that serve as me
morials to pets and loved ones. According the Daniels, orders for
the bricks came from across the country, and five were even or
dered from Canada. The project was completed through donations
of supplies and labor from architect Mark Hancock of Manchester
England, City of Waynesboro employees, McKinney Wholesale, Boral
Brick Company, Madfactory and an Old Fella volunteer who asked
to remain anonymous. “It turned out prettier than I ever dreamed,”
Daniels said. “We could not have done it without their help.”

Blakeney Elementary students, from left, Selena Castro, Grace Coalson, Zoe Swanna

their poems published in the prestigious book titled Award-Winning Young Writers
of America. “This year our school is implementing the Write from the Beginning
Program, which has provided organization and structure for our students’ writing.
We are very pleased to see the positive results of this program and are very proud
of our students’ accomplishments,” said Renee Sasser, BES principal.
