Angel Nunez
A Burke County teen graduated from the National Guard-
sponsored Youth Challenge Academy Saturday, Dec. 19, at
commencement ceremonies in Macon.
Angel Nunez of Waynesboro was among 209 graduates of
the Fort Stewart-based
Youth Challenge Academy who successfully completed
the 22-week, in residence program for at-risk youth.
The National Guard Youth Challenge Program helps to
reclaim the lives of at-risk youth to produce graduates with
the values, skills, education and self-discipline necessary to
succeed as adults.
Youth Challenge Program is a preventive rather than re
medial program, targeting youth who are unemployed, drug-
free and law-free high-school dropouts, 16 to 18 years of
age.
Georgia has two Youth Challenge Academy campuses, the
original at Fort
Stewart near Savannah, and a second at Fort Gordon near
Augusta. Since its
first graduating class in 1993, Youth Challenge boasts of
more than 10,000
graduates.
Jaymie Morris
Jamie Moms has become a new associ
ate at Janice Morris Realty.
Jaymie is a life-long resident of Burke
County.
Although recently licensed, Jaymie has
grown up in the real estate world. Her
mother Janice Morris has been in real es
tate for over 25 years.
Jaymie enjoys working with people and
assisting them with their real estate needs.
D’Juan J. McGee
Pastor James McGee and wife Mary McGee announce the
graduation of their son D’Juan J. McGee from Valdosta State
University with a bachelors degree in Business (accounting)
Saturday, Dec. 12.
He plants to go to Thailand in January of 2010 to do mis
sionary work and also attend Kasetsart University to obtain
a master’s degree in International Business.
Donations are being accepted for the missionary trip. All

Sara Morgan Sapp
Peyton and Pam Sapp are the proud parents of a new baby girl,
Sara Morgan Sapp. Sara Morgan was bom Nov.24, 2009 at Ath
ens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia. She weighed 8
pounds and 8 ounces and was 20 Vi inches long.
Paternal grandparents are Pete and Venda Sapp of Metter. Ma
ternal grandparents are Ronald and Patricia Holton of Pembroke.
Big brother. Holt Sapp welcomes his little sister.
Ramsey Marie Harper
Brian and Brooke Harper of Garfield announce the birth of
their daughter, Ramsey Marie, bom Dec. 1, 2009 at University
of Hospital in Augusta.
She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 inches long.
Grandparents are Cecil and Rebecca Hickman of Waynesboro
and Wayne and Helen Harper of Garfield.
Ramsey was welcomed home by her big sister Bessie.
Adrian Wesley Shaw
Wesley and Carrie Shaw of Clyo, Georgia announce the birth
of their son, Adrian Wesley Shaw, bom Nov. 24, 2009 at Candler
Hospital in Savannah.
Grandparents are Dawn Scarborough of Pooler, Jerry and Jen
nifer Shaw of Clyo and Denny and Rose Nelson of Sardis. Great-
grandparents are the Rev. Henry Erwin and the late Lila Erwin
and Lillian and the late Lawton Shaw.

Georgia Power awards grant to CIS
Christmas came a little early for the Burke County’s Communities in Schools (CIS)
thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Georgia Power Foundation. The foundation pro
vides funding to non-profit organizations and for local initiatives in the communities
served by Georgia Power. According to the company’s area manager Lisa Smith, CIS
will be able to use the funding however it is needed. Above, CIS executive director
DeAndre 1 L. Davis accepts a check from Smith.
Finding Cellutions
Purification Cellutions in Waynesboro is helping United Way of the CSRA in a
big way. On Monday, site manager John Nichols, center, presented a $7,500
check for the 2009 campaign. Pictured with him are Rina Powell, United Way’s
Senior Director for Resource Development and Campaign Division Director Kim
Grimes.
