Burke County’s Tedrick Kelly was a show-stopper on national
television Monday night.
The Waynesboro-bred singer, songwriter and performer ap
peared as a contestant on E’s new series. Bank of Hollywood, and
won 10-grand in the process.
The show, which is produced by Ryan Seacrest. is anchored
around a celebrity “power panel’’ that decides whether contes
tants deserve the cash to follow their dreams.
During Monday’s premier Tedrick, who needed dough to kick-
start his career as an entertainment host, found himself amongst a
mix of charity causes including one woman with 50 adopted spe
cial needs children.
“I tried to remain confident... I only started to get nervous when
they began to question my motives,” Tedrick said Tuesday be
fore heading to work on the set of George Lopez’ new late night
show in LA.
He was on that same set a while back when he got the long
awaited call from E! telling him to come to the studio right away.
With nothing to wear and no time to rehearse, Tedrick made a
quick detour for a new outfit and got there halfway through the
taping.
“I was in front of the camera in less than an hour,” he said. “So
everything you saw on the show was natural and unrehearsed ...
just me being me.”
And the panel seemed to like it... especially after Sean Patterson,
president of Wilhelmina Models Agency, put Tedrick in the hot
seat and asked him to show off his skills with an impromptu “red
carpet” interview of fellow-panelist Melody Thorton of the pop-
music group the Pussycat Dolls.
“Your talent speaks for itself,” Patterson said before giving
Tedrick his vote of approval. “I think that you’re going to make it
... with or without us.”
Thornton agreed, as did entrepreneur Candy Spelling, the widow

of television icon Aaron Spelling.
“I think you can make it,” Spelling said. “I want to
give you the money.”
But for Tedrick, it comes down to a lot more than the
cash.
“Money isn’t what being on the show was all about...
it’s about what it means for my career,” he said. "To hear
Sean Patterson say how strongly he believed I would
succeed humbled me ... now I have to believe in myself
and it’s only up from here.”
Tedrick won’t actually get the money for another 90
days, and when he does it will mainly go toward hosting
classes, demos and professional head shots to send to
agencies.
“I want to do red carpet events, TV spots and be there
anytime somebody wants to hand me a mic,” he said.
While Tedrick’s five minutes in the Bank of
Hollywood’s spotlight is over and done, the rush was
still with him as he watched
from home Monday night.
“What felt the best wasn’t the
feeling of financial gain,” he
said, "but the feeling that my
career had begun.”
