Travis Zipperer
Travis Zipperer of
Waynesboro was named to the
Dean’s List for fall semester
2009 at the Georgia Institute of
Technology.
Undergraduate students
earning a 3.0 or higher aca
demic average for the semes
ter gain the distinction of be
ing named to the Dean’s List
at Georgia Tech.
The school is one of the
nation’s leading research uni
versities, providing a focused,
technologically based educa
tion to more than 18,000 un
dergraduate and graduate stu
dents.
Josephine Davis
Josephine Davis was in
ducted into the Alpha Chi
Delta Chapter of Phi Theta
Kappa at Augusta Technical
College in December.
She is a business major.
Established in 1918 by two-
year college presidents, Phi
Theta Kappa is the oldest and
most prestigious honor society
serving two-year colleges
around the world. The society
serves to recognize and en
courage the academic achieve
ment of two-year college stu
dents and provide opportuni
ties for individual growth and
development through honors,
leadership and service pro
gramming. Students must rank
in the top 20 percent of the
class to be invited to member
ship in Phi Theta Kappa and
must maintain high academic
standing during their enroll
ment in the two-year college.
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest
honor society in American
higher education with more
than 1.7 million members and
1,100 chapters located in 50
United States, United States
territories, Canada, and Ger
many. In 1929, the American
Association of Community
Colleges recognized Phi Theta
Kappa as the official honor
society for two-year colleges.
The society holds membership
in the prestigious Association
of College Honor Societies as
the general scholarship honor
society representing two-year
colleges.
UGA Dean’s List
Several students from Burke
County have been named to the
Dean’s List at the University of
Georgia for fall semester.
Jeffrey Blake Chandler Jr., a
junior in the College of Agri
culture and Environmental Sci
ences, Shelby De’Monica
Jackson, a senior in College of
Education, Mollie Marie
Mitchell, a junior in the Col
lege of Family and Consumer
Sciences, and Laura Margaret
Stone, a senior in the School
of Public and International Af
fairs, all of Waynesboro, were
named to the Dean’s List.
Meagan Elizabeth Nix, a jun
ior from Sardis in the College
of Education, also made the
list.
Students named to the
Dean’s List have earned a 3.5
grade point average or higher
out of a possible 4.0 and com
pleted at least 14 credit hours
during the semester.
Judy and Leslie Padgett
Happy 50 th anniversary!
Judy and Leslie Padgett celebrated their 50 th wedding anniver
sary Dec. 26, 2009.
They were blessed with four children and their spouses, Rhonda
and Doug Hoover, Bobby and Lisa Padgett, Renee and Deither
Jaksch, Traci and Fred Reeves; 11 grandchildren, Ellen Chan
dler, Beau and Courtney Jaksch, Joshua and Christy Brown, Ryan,
Kyle and Rusty Padgett, and Hunter, Dalton and Cody Reeves;
and two great-grandchildren, Dawson Chandler and Jacob Brown.
The Padgett’s celebrated their anniversary with their family in
Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
