Awake and Alive
WECW Wrestling makes debut in Waynesboro
ByTres Bragg

A little entertainment never
hurt anyone, and in two weeks
Millen and Waynesboro resi
dents will have their fair share
of it.
WECW Wrestling is com
ing to Waynesboro, and the
main event will feature two
Millen pros. Mason Storm
and Kenneth Swanson have
been training since youth and
will finally get their chance to
battle head-to-head.
For Storm, defending his
heavyweight title is what it’s
all about. "Growing up, I put
an enormous amount of time
and effort into wrestling,"
Storm said. “It’s something
I’ve always had a passion for
and it’s something I dreamed
of doing as a kid. I love put
ting on a great show for the
crowd and letting the fans
leave with something to re
member for a long time.”
Swanson will have his
chance on October 2 to steal
Storm’s championship belt
but it’s not going to be easy.
“I don’t have to isolate any of
his weaknesses," Storm said
of his opponent. “You don’t
have to do that when you’re
just simply better than the
person you’re wrestling.”
Event organizers are hoping
for a good turnout and plan on
20 different wrestlers brawl
ing in the ring throughout the
night, all leading up to the
main event.
Storm is promising an ex
citing night. “I guarantee that
fans are going to leave with
something to talk about. I will
do whatever it takes for them
to get their money’s worth. I
am the champion for a rea
son.”
WECW’s "Awake and
Alive” will be at the Burke
County Recreation Depart
ment gym on October 2.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with
the first match starting at 7
p.m. Adult tickets are $10,
tickets for children 5-11 are
$7 and children under 5 get
in free.

FAKE? I THINK NOT!
What do you say to people who think wrestling is fake?
Look, I’m not going to insult anyone’s intelligence here by
saying we all go out with the intent to hurt each other. But,
I will say this. You can’t fake gravity. When someone picks
me up and slams me, it hurts. When someone clothes
lines me, it hurts. When someone jumps from five feet in
the air and lands on me... guess what? It hurts. People are
fans of Family Guy and CSI. Guess what? Those shows
are fake. But, they don’t watch those shows because it’s
reality. They watch those shows because they are enter
taining. So I encourage all to come to the show for one
reason - to be entertained.

Edmund Burke crushes
First Presbyterian, falls to
Robert Toombs
The Lady Spartans had a field day on the diamond last
Tuesday when they hosted region newcomer First Presby
terian. Edmund Burke picked up their first region victory
of the season after winning 26-0 in just three innings of
play. Katelynn Kent started on the mound and pitched a
no-hitter during her two innings of work. She handed the
ball over to eighth-grader Kayley Sapp who secured the
win and gave up just one hit. Gray Lewis led the Lady Spar
tans offense with 2 hits. She was followed by Whitley Clark,
Amber Bowman, Shelby Harris, Harley Purvis, Lindsey
Beazley, Hannah Jenkins, Kent and Sapp, who all picked
up one hit. Edmund Burke fell to region foe RobertToombs
10-2 last Thursday. With just four games left on their sched
ule, head coach Krystal Chance is looking ahead to the
state playoffs. “Once those playoffs start, nothing else
matters,” Chance said. “All of the wins and losses from the
season are wiped out and every team starts fresh. Hope
fully, the playoffs will give us a chance to sneak out a couple
of wins and shake up the tournament.”The Lady Spartans
will wrap up regular season play with four away games.
Their last game before playoffs will be nextTuesday against
David Emanuel Academy in Stillmore. At right, Kasie
Hargrove makes a catch at the fence in left field, robbing a

FBC launches
new ministry
From Staff Reports
First Baptist Church of Waynesboro now has a support group
to help with some of life’s toughest issues.
According to pastor Dr. A1 Wright, Celebrate Recovery is “a

The group meets at 7 p.m. each Thursday night. On the first
Thursday of each month, a 6:15 p.m. meal will be served.
