Lady Bears finish up on
volleyball court
Burke County High School’s volleyball team wrapped up
the season after a tough loss to a top-ranked Cross Creek
team in the region tournament. The Lady Bears won the
first game in the set against the Lady Razorbacks but
weren’t able to pull off the final two to progress in the
bracket. Despite finishing with a 4-13 record, head coach
Cristina Zdroba said the Lady Bears made serious progress
from the start of the season and were able to knock off
A. R. Johnson in the first round of the region tournament.
She said even the Cross Creek coach called the Lady Bears
a different team from where they started earlier in the sea
son. “I cannot be anything but proud for the improvements
we made,” Coach Zdroba said. “Next season, we will be
ahead of the game, getting a much earlier start and work
ing more on attacking strategies. So far, due to lack of ex
perience, we played a safe game, but we need to work more
on spiking and blocking.’The 2010 volleyball team included,
from left, front row: Arnetta Gordon, Jasmine Miles, Heidi
Lee, Briana DeLaigle, Ariel Roberson and Linsay Walker;
and back row: assistant coach Daniel Hance, Kaila Bates,
Destiny Turner, Morgan Yearty, Sierra Anderson, Kiahna
Jackson and Coach Zdroba.
