Farming
Youngsters from across the county learned how agriculture impacts their lives and
specifically about fall harvest activities at the fall session of Ag in the Classroom.
Last week, students were invited to the University of Georgia’s Southeast Georgia
Research and Education Center near Midville for a day of harvesting peanut and cot
ton crops, planting trees, learning about critters on the farm, an upclose look at beef
cattle, lessons in peanut history and nutrition and making crafts using agricultural
products. Last spring, more than 400 third graders visited the center to learn about
planting season. They returned last week as fourth graders to see those crops har
vested, according
to Burke County
Extension Coordi
nator Peyton Sapp.
