Foul play not suspected
in death of Girard woman
By Elizabeth Billips
lizbillips@yahoo.com
GBI agents were called in to
investigate the suspicious cir
cumstances surrounding the
death of a Girard woman, but
investigators say they no longer
suspect foul play.
The body of Ellie Finch
Myers, 65, was found last
Wednesday night after Burke
County deputies were dispatched
to her Stoney Bluff Road home
to check on her.
According to the report, the
doors were locked and a family
member on the scene said Myers
would not answer her phone or
come to the door.
An EMT crawled through a
window and discovered Myers’
naked body, face-down in a hall
way. Investigators were called to
the scene when deputies saw
several overturned chairs, blood
spots on the floor and prescrip
tion medication scattered about.
“The deputies said it just didn’t
look right ... like it might have
been a homicide,’’ said Sgt.
Dedric Smith of the Burke
County Sheriff’s Office. How
ever, the possibility of a homi
cide was essentially ruled out, he
said, after the investigation re
vealed her injuries were minor
and appeared to be accidental.
There were no signs of an in
truder.
According to Burke County
Coroner Lee Webster, Myers’
body was transported to the GBI
crime lab but an autopsy report
has not yet been released. “It was
a suspicious looking scene, but
after the investigation and pre
liminary findings I don’t feel like
there was any foul play,” he said,
noting that toxicology tests could
hold the answer. Those results
are likely to take another week
or more.
Mother charged after throwing brick into car
Workin’ on the railroad
Two Burke County men were jailed for stealing metal from
Norfolk Southern Railway.
Deputies were dispatched to the railroad right-of-way at
Alexander-Munnerlyn Road last Tuesday after Steven Michael
Dixon, 32, and Robert Trever Hunter, 31, were seen cutting
pipes and loading them into a utility trailer.
After the pair unloaded their plunder, they were charged with
theft by taking (felony) and trespassing. Dixon was also charged
with probation violation.
Thieves
One thief got a full belly and another got a plethora of pills.
According to a report filed at the sheriff’s office, a Sardis
woman came home to find that someone had been in her home.
Judging from the number of cigarette butts, she believed the
unknown offender may have even stayed overnight. While the
thief was there, he helped himself to lasagna and strawberries,
as well as an unopened bottle of liquor. The offender finished
the job by stealing a black Toyota Scion that was parked out
side. The vehicle was later recovered, but had been damaged.
In another unrelated incident last Wednesday, a Waynesboro
woman reported that a thief put a hurting on her parked ve
hicle. Among the stolen items were around 75 valium pills, 50
Reglan pills and two 9 mm. pistols.

A Waynesboro woman who tried to break up a fight had
another thing coming.
According to the report, the victim was attempting to sepa

took off her high heeled shoe and struck the victim on the
