They’ve scored 97 points in
the last two weeks. And, they
haven’t given up a single point
since their game against Tho
mas Jefferson on Sept. 9.
The Edmund Burke Academy
football team shut out Central
Fellowship Academy 54-0 in
Macon last Thursday night. The
win came less than a week after
defeating St. Andrews Academy
43-0 at Rogers’ Field.
Edmund Burke unleashed an
offensive attack in the first half,
scoring on every possession.
Fogan Christian scored first
with a quarterback keeper up the
middle. Dawson Atkinson
added two more points when he
found the end zone on the suc
cessful two-point conversion.
After a defensive stop by the
Spartans. Brandon Sharpe
rushed for a touchdown and
two-point conversion. The Spar
tans led 16-0 after the first quar
ter.
The scoring continued for
Edmund Burke in the second
quarter. EBA’s solid defense led
to a blocked punt, which was
recovered by Josh Gradous,
who then ran the ball back for a
touchdown. On the Spartans’
next possession. Hagen Wade
found the end zone to score his
first of two touchdowns for the
night. After holding Central Fel
lowship to just a few yards,
Atkinson ran the punt return
more than 60 yards all the way
in to score. Wade would add to
the lead with a touchdown catch
from Christian. At the half, the
Spartans were ahead 41-0.
During the second half, a
number of younger players got
significant playing time for the
Spartans. With under two min
utes to go in the third quarter.
Atkinson scored another touch
down to make the score 48-0.
The Spartans put the nail in the
coffin when Lane Christian con
nected with Lane Clark for a
touchdown pass late in the
fourth quarter. The Spartans
won 54-0 and remain unde
feated for the season.
Head coach Buddy Sorrow is
already focused on the game
ahead.
“We played well Thursday
night, but our starters haven’t
played a full game since we
battled Thomas Jefferson,’’ Sor
row said. “We know we haven’t
played the toughest of teams the
past two games, so we’re going
to switch some things up dur
ing practice. We usually focus
on fundamentals at practice, but
now we’re going to have to
challenge them.’’
Sorrow added that how his
players respond to what they
work on these next two weeks
will be key before facing Pied-
Lady Spartans fall in rematch
against Nathanael Greene
The Edmund Burke Academy Lady Spartan softball team
fell 8-3 to Nathanael Greene Academy Monday afternoon.
Despite beating the Lady Patriots 8-1 earlier in the season,
the Lady Spartans couldn’t bring enough runs across the
plate during the rematch two days ago. EBA has three more
games, all at home, before seeding will be determined for
the state playoffs. More than likely, the Lady Spartans will
get the No. 2 or No. 3 seed from their region depending on
their final region game of the season. That game, which will
be against First Presbyterian Christian Academy (FPCA),
will be played this Friday at home at 4:30 p.m. The Lady
Spartans beat FPCA 32-4 during their first meeting. If EBA
wins, they will be in a tie for second place in their region
with Robert Toombs Christian Academy. At right, EBA
catcher Hannah Powell tags out a Lady Patriot who tried to
score from first base on a hit to the outfield. Below, Senior
Amanda Bragg drives a ball in the gap for a base hit.

The Spartans will have an off
week this Friday in preparation
for their toughest game thus far
against Piedmont Academy on
Oct. 7. The Cougars beat
Edmund Burke last year during
both the region and state cham
pionship games. This will be the
most important game for both
schools, as one school will walk
away still undefeated and one
will walk away with a loss.
Kickoff for the big game is set
for 7:30 p.m. in Monticello.
INJURY UPDATE
The Central Fellowship
player who was carted off the
field on a stretcher Thursday
night was not seriously injured.
According to Spartan head
coach Buddy Sorrow, the player
was taken in an ambulance as
a precautionary measure. After
contacting Central Fellowship to
check on the player, Sorrow re
ported that he only suffered a
deep neck bruise.
