Obituaries
Peggy Robinson
Peggy Robinson Norman
Jenkins, 80, Augusta, Ga., for
merly of Sardis, Ga., died Sat
urday afternoon, Oct. 1,2011, at
her residence.
She was born in Jenkins
County, Ga., to the late Emory
Winston and Florrie Oliver
Robinson. She was a member
of the Sardis United Methodist
Church and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by
her parents and her husbands,
Richard S. Norman, Sr. and
James Douglas Jenkins.
Survivors include, three
daughters and son-in-law, Debra
Norman of Atlanta, Ga., Mitzi
Norman and Pratt Adams of
Richmond Hill, Ga., and Ricki
Norman of Naples, Fla. a son,
Richard S. Norman Jr. of
Hardeeville, S.C.; four grand
children, Adam Fynn Stevison,
V. Lacy Nuciforo, Ashley
Adams and Laleah Adams; and
several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs.
Jenkins were Tuesday, Oct. 4, ,
at 2 p.m. at the Sardis United
Methodist Church, Sardis, with
the Rev. Dr. Karen R. Zeigler
and the Rev. Steve Sirmans of
ficiating. Burial was in the
Sardis Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Chip
Dixon, Douglas Stubbs, Mike
Chandler, Randy Chandler,
Grady Dixon, Arthur Long and
Val Prescott.
Honorary pallbearers were
members of the Sardis United
Methodist Women and members
of the Sylvania High School
Class of 1948.
Mrs. Jenkins was placed in the
church at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Visitation was Tuesday at the
church prior to the service.

Diabetic teaching
A free diabetic teaching class will be held 6-8 p.m., Wednes
day, Oct. 5, in the Burke Medical Center classroom.

Vidette School Reunion
Another reunion for former students and friends of Vidette
School 11 a.m-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, at Mobley’s Cafeterian,
located on Sixth Street in Waynesboro. Lunch is served from
10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be no advance charge. You will
pay when you order.

Yard Sale/Fish Dinner Sale
Thomas Grove Baptist Churdch will have a yard sale and fish
dinner sale Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Southern Bank Pavilion, lo
cated at 855 North Liberty Street in Waynesboro.
The yard sale begins at 7:30 a.m. The dinner sale begins at 11
a.m.
Toastmasters
The Waynesboro Toastmasters Club will meet on Sunday, Oct.
9, at 5 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 841
Jones Ave. The Speakers will be Toni Searles and Nick Rose.

Quick Reunion
The 2011 Jim & Eva Quick family reunion will be held Sun
day, Oct. 9, at the Vogtle Recreation Area.

Retired Educators
The Burke County Retired Educators will have its monthly
meeting 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Senior Citizen Center in
Waynesboro. The guest speaker will be Dr. Beverly Roberts,
GREA Area Director.
Class of 2003
The Burke County High School Class of 2003 will have a class
meeting 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Burke County Li
brary.

Blood Drives
Shepeard Community Blood Center will have a blood drive 3-
7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10, at the Waynesboro Mennonite School.
Another blood drive will be held 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday,
Oct. 24, at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro.
NAACP
The Burke County branch of the NAACP will have its monthly
meeting 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, at Mt. Olive AME Church,
located at 527 West Seventh Street in Waynesboro.
Blessing of the Pets
The Blessing of Pets in the Park sponsored by St. Michael’s
Episcopal Church will be 4 p.m., Sunday Oct. 9.
Bring your pets to be blessed. This is a brief service of ap
proximately 30 minutes. The event honors St. Francis of Assisi,
who experienced a strong connection with all creation in the
name of God. It was said that he even preached to a wolf and
flock of birds and called the moon, brother and the sun, sister. He
was the original “Back to the Earth’’ saint.
