Other Voices From Page 5
in those Great Depression Days, one heard very few complaints.
People made do with the little they had and found ways to enjoy
life despite all the hardships. In those tough days, people took
great pleasure in just visiting one another.
Folks sat on the front porch and rocked and talked. If the
weather was cold, the vistors were invited inside where they
could chat. Back then there were no televisions blaring. In this
day and time any conversation we have is in competition with
the TV which most of the host refuse to turn off.
Everyday we hear some one complain how hard times are.
They may be riding in a shiny new car, or they may be so obese
they can hardly walk. These folks have no idea of what hard
times are.
We folks nowadays have to have delicacies from the world
over. We have to have the finest fashion designer clothes. We
constantly demand more and more material goods, and yet we
are never satisfied. We want to give up nothing. We just shout at
the top of our lungs; “Hard Times”, "Hard Times”.
