Woman stabbed in eye
By Elizabeth Billips
lizbillips@yahoo.com
A Waynesboro woman lost her
vision in one eye following an
unprovoked attack.
Just after 1 a.m. last Wednes
day, 35-year-old Shameka
Triplett was dropped off at
Burke Medical Center with a stab
wound inside her left eye.
Waynesboro police would later
arrest 45-year-old Cynthia Elaine
Ellison for aggravated battery.
Investigators say there is no
apparent motive.
During police interviews,
Ellison claimed she had been
fighting with Triplett when her
long-handled comb inadvert
ently went into her eye.
But witnesses had a very dif
ferent story.
“They all said Ellison just
walked up and stabbed the vic
tim for no reason,” Sgt. Charles
Prescott said, noting that Triplett
was sitting on her father’s front
porch on Holly Drive. “People
also said that she (Ellison) had
been acting out of the ordinary
for the last week.”
Investigators indicated they
don’t buy Ellison’s comb expla
nation either.
“It was a knife of some sort,”
Sgt. Prescott said, adding that the
wound was created by a down
ward stabbing motion. "A comb
is not consistent with the
doctor’s report.”
Triplett was transported to an
Augusta hospital where she un
derwent a several-hour surgery,
officers said, but doctors were
unable to save her eye.
According to the Georgia De
partment of Pardons and Paroles,
Ellison is a convicted felon who
served three years of a 10-year
sentence for a 2005 burglary.
This year, she was arrested for
shoplifting and probation viola
tion.

Drug agents raid wrong house
By Elizabeth Billips

A Burke County family got
a big shock when Richmond
County agents raided the
wrong home.
It happened just after noon
last Monday when officers
from the Richmond County
Drug Taskforce served a no
knock warrant in Blythe.
Instead of surprising the sus
pected dealers, they pushed
through the back door to find
the homeowner, her adult
daughter and 3-year-old
granddaughter.
According to a report filed
at the sheriff’s office, the
adult daughter was hand
cuffed before Richmond
County officers realized their
error. The intended home was
on the same road and had a
similar street address.
Burke County officers said
the women were shaken up,
but no one was injured.

The bomb
A cluster of sticky notes sparked off a bomb scare.
Deputies were dispatched to a Waynesboro business Satur
day morning when a shopper returned to her car to find threat
ening messages stuck to her floorboard.
The small handwritten notes were pieced together to read,
“It’s a bomb in yo car (expletive) so don’t turn on yo car if
you know what’s good fo you. This is not a joke. It fo real
(expletive)."
Officers searched the entire car, but found nothing to indi
cate the vehicle had been tampered with. If a suspect is identi
fied, he/she could be charged with terroristic threats and acts.
(Voo) doo what?
A Burke County woman called the cops when she was
threatened with black magic.
According to a report filed at the sheriff’s office, two teen
age girls allegedly tried to pick a fight with the victim and
then told her they put “roots” in her mailbox to curse her.
The trouble, deputies reported, had arisen over a boy.
Officers checked the mailbox but did not find the roots or
evidence of any other voodoo spells or curses. The victim
was advised to follow up with the Magistrate Court.

Driver hits golf cart, flees
By Elizabeth Billips

Deputies are looking for a
driver who slammed into a golf
cart and kept going.
The 52-year-old victim was
hit by a man in a silver Crown
Victoria last Monday afternoon
as he was driving his cart on the
right-of-way of Hometract
Road.
According to the report filed
at the Burke County Sheriff’s
Office, the offender lost control
of his Crown Vic when he
struck a large dog that was in
the roadway. He then careened
off the pavement and into the
E-Z-GO golf cart.
Instead of stopping, the
driver, who is described as a
black man with dreadlocks,
backed out of the ditch and fled
the accident scene.
The victim suffered minor
injuries, Burke County deputies
reported, but his golf cart was
extensively damaged.
The case is under investiga

While in jail, Johnson admit
ted to another burglary at the
Family Dollar. Security footage
of that burglary showed a win
dow being smashed, the
offender’s long look at a
gumball machine and then his
selection of several pieces of
women’s lingerie.
Johnson had six prior bur
glaries on his record and had
just been paroled from prison
while serving time for his most
recent, a 2009 break-in in
Emanuel County.
Last week, he pleaded guilty
to two counts of burglary for
the Waynesboro break-ins. Su

sentenced him to 10 years in
prison and 10 years on proba
