members to show at the Putnam County dairy
show this year. The Dairy Show team has con
tinued to grow each year thanks to support from
local dairy farms who allow 4-H’ers to lease
their cattle to show.

Emily Miller, center, was one of 11 Burke County 4-H’ers
who participated in the Area Poultry Judging Competition
in Lyons, GA. Poultry Judging team members learn to
grade eggs on interior and exterior quality, identify parts
of a chicken, determine past egg production of laying
hens, and give oral reasons.

coached the 2013 State Dairy
Judging Team which won 3rd place
Junior Team. The Dairy Judging
team members were (left to right)
Sarah Tinsley, Marvin Butler,
Kendall Eberly, Michaela Pollex
and Cynthia Eberly. Michaela was
the 2 nd High Senior Individual at the
contest.
This year, Certified Wildlife Judging Coach Barb
Hammond helped train 6 4-H’ers to attend the State
Wildlife Judging Contest at Rock Eagle 4-H Center.
Thanks to Mrs. Barb and Mr. Buck Marchinton, who
assisted with coaching the team, the group had a
great time and did well at the competition.The Wild
life Team members and coaches were (back row, left
to right) Heather Brannen (former 4-H agent), Taylor
Mizelle, Derrick Dixon, Aaron Boland, Barb
Hammond; (front row, left to right) Kristen VanDeRyt,
Ali Grace Bennett and Kassy Clark.
Joshua Livingston, Moses Jones and
Derrick Dixon (left to right) represented
Burke County 4-H at the 2012 Georgia
Youth Summit. The conference, held
every other year, is designed to create
youth-adult partnerships in counties
across Georgia to enact positive
change on a local level.
Kelly Carterwas selected to
perform with Georgia 4-H
performing group Clovers &
Company, and Amanda
Durant was selected as an
alternate.
