FOR THE RECORD
Sardis gets grant for Intoxilyzer 9000
From Staff Reports
Sardis police aren’t playing
when it comes to drunk driv
ers.
The agency is getting an
Intoxilyzer 9000, thanks to an
$8,000 grant from the
Governor’s Office of Highway
Safety.
‘With the addition of the lat
est technology, the Sardis Po
lice Department in cooperation
with the Governor’s Office of
Highway Safety remains com
mitted to providing the motor
ing public and the City of
Sardis with safer roadways,”
said Sardis Police Chief Scotti
Sanford.
The Intox 9000 will not only
help get impaired drivers off the
road, the new technology will
help Sardis police build stron
ger DUI court cases.
Agencies across the
state are in the process
of phasing out their
aging breath-testing
machines and transitioning
to the Intoxilyzer 9000.
The mass changeover
came after lab testing by
the Georgia Bureau of In
vestigation determined it was
the most accurate model on the
market.

From the Blotter
Fat cow
A Blythe man is tired of fattening his foe. The
exasperated farmer called deputies after his
neighbor’s horned wild cow jumped over the fence
of his 2.5-acre pasture and refused to budge. He
said he’d called his neighbor repeatedly but is still
stuck with the ornery beast. At the time the report
was filed, the bovine interloper had been in the
pasture for three weeks and had gained as much as
a hundred pounds, compliments of the grain put
out for the victim’s livestock. The cattle farmer
told deputies he was spending three times as much
on feed and was worried his cows would mate with
the homed specimen and produce worthless off
spring. He also said his neighbor’s cow was gor
ing the hornless herd and destroying his fence. The
victim was advised to talk to the Magistrate Court
about his legal rights.
Til death do us part
A Burke County woman was jailed following a
fight involving her mother’s ashes and a can of air
freshener. Jayann Faler, 49, was charged with
simple battery despite claims that her husband "des
ecrated her mother” by throwing the urn on the
floor and then chest-bumped her. Her husband had
a different story. He said he came home to an in
toxicated wife who accused him of an affair and
sprayed him in the face with Febreze. According
to the report, he was trying to shield himself with
a cardboard box when the urn was knocked over.
Deputies also noted the man’s eye was markedly
swollen, allegedly from two wifely punches. Mrs.
Faler denied taking a swing. She told the deputy
her brother was a Golden Gloves champion and if
she’d hit her husband, he would have known it. At
that point she was arrested under the Family Vio
lence Act.
