Six-time world champion Justin Thigpen wrestles a steer to the ground.
It means everything when he his nose,” Justin says, going
races up to a steer on the straight through the steps of wrestling a

bring him to a stop and twist But Justin plays down his per
ils and points to bullfighters like
Ross Hill as the real heroes of
the rodeo.
While they may look like
clowns, they’re actually “ex
treme sport" athletes who keep
the thrashing bulls from goring
and trampling the cowboys
they’ve bucked off.
“They put their lives on the
line to step between a cowboy
and a bull,” Justin says.
For cowboys like Leroy Lane
and Justin Thigpen, this
weekend’s rodeo isn’t just about
big lights and big money. It’s a
chance for the community, and
especially kids, to learn about a
different way of living.
“The rodeo is one of the last
true family events,” Justin con
tends. “And it’s one of the last
representations of America’s
heritage.”
As a brand new dad, Justin
believes that more than ever.
When his son Slade was born
seven days ago, he looked down
and saw a cowboy in the mak
ing. He wants him to know the
horses, hard work and compe
tition that shaped his parents and
grandparents.
Cowboy boots?
“He’s got four or five pairs at
the house already.”

Splish Splash We’ll Be
Taking A Bath...
As part of its corrosion control program, the City of
Waynesboro will begin flushing water lines in the
distribution system on October 15 th , 16 th and 17 th .
All customers on the City water system should be
aware that their water could be “discolored” or
cloudy for a time during the flushing process. We
advise customers to check their water on each day
during this process before doing laundry.
Customers experiencing “discolored” water should
open the cold water tap in their bathtub and let the
water run until it clears.
Flushing is done to clean deposits and sediment
from the pipes. These deposits can result in an
odor and turbidity in the water. If you have any
questions, please contact City Hall at 706-554-8000.
