Rev. Lawson says he and other Rosemont members arc eager to
see what possibilities lay ahead for Cornerstone as they move.
“Cornerstone Ministries is just going to explode here,” he says. "I
don’t think we can even grasp
what they arc going to do. The
timing was a God-thing. They
needed this space.”
Rev. Lawson adds that
Rosemont’s move away from
the campus is a bold step as
well, considering it doesn’t
just involve a new building.
They’ll leave behind the prop
erty where the church took
root and grew for 50 years.
“There is a lot of history
here for us and a lot of emo
tions that go along with that,”
he says. But even those among
the church’s earliest members
are more concerned with the
future than the past. They’re
looking forward to the oppor
tunities that will come with
their new location in a grow
ing area of the county and a
space that will fit their grow
ing needs.
Rosemont charter members
Fred and Martha Chambers
can remember the tent meet
ings that began in the months
before Rosemont was offi
cially constituted. They were
a young couple starting a fam
ily in the Rosemont Heights
neighborhood when the late
Rev. Harold Rowland, then pastor of First Baptist Church, had the
vision for First Baptist to begin a mission church on Stone Avenue.
The Chambers were there every step of the way as the congrega
tion built their first sanctuary, then a larger one and later an educa
tion building.
“We have all those memories of how we have worked so hard,
both physically and spiritually,” Martha Chambers says. “The con
gregation has always done whatever had to be done.”
Now, they’re more than ready to see Rosemont begin the next
phase of their ministry on Highway 25 North.
Members like Jeannie Stephens, who was also a charter member
along with her late husband Edwin, agree wholeheartedly and say
missions are what it’s all about.
“There are so many families who have invested so much in this
church. Those memories will always be there but you know there is
a purpose,” she says, recalling the mission-minded members of First
Baptist who started Rosemont. “You have to cany on where the
Lord leads you. It’s all about missions.”

Loitering restrictions aim
to improve game for fans
Burke County Public School officials are working to make sure
all is clear beneath the bleachers at home football games. Be
ginning this Friday night, they are enforcing a “no loitering” policy
for fans. While fans are encouraged to visit the concession stand,
officials ask that they refrain from spending time beneath the
bleachers. “No loitering” signs have been placed in the restricted
areas, and failure to comply could result in removal from the
stadium or possible law enforcement consequences, according
to a letter from BCHS principal Sam Adkins released this week.
The letter said this move is intended to make the game experi
ence more enjoyable for spectators.
