Burke County 4-Hers enjoy help
ing out with community events,
including the annual Burke County
Farm Fest. Youth volunteers who
assisted with this year's event
were Michaela Pol lex, Taylor
Mizelle, Christopher Ramey,
Rebekah Ramey, Addalyn
Steinseifer, Joshua Godbee, Josef
Steinseifer, and Kelly Carter.
A new opportunity offered for 4-H'ers this year
is the Homeschool 4-H Club which will be held
monthly at the Burke County Office Park. At the
kick-off meeting, 4-H'ers met to learn about 4-
H and the Watersheds in their community.
Mary Helen Coble and Anna Coble enjoyed
creating a watershed model out of paper and
exploring the effects that a rain shower would
have on transferring pollutants from one part
of the landscape to another.
Junior 4-H'ers who are in 7 th and 8 th grade
have a variety of fun learning activities and
events they can participate in throughout the
year. A favorite of our Burke County youth
are the summer camps and weekend leader
ship events that are offered. McKenzie
Holmes, Marvin Butler, Breyanna Osborne,
Kelly Carter, Emily Miller, Ali Bennett, Perla
Gomez, Makayla Barefield, and Christopher
Gibson had tons of fun exploring Tybee
Island during their week of Junior Camp at
Burton 4-H Center.
In addition to leadership and
service opportunities, Senior
4-Hers in 9 th - 12 th grades can benefit
from avarityof college and career prepara
tion events hosted by the University of Geor
gia and other institutions. Taylor Mizelle and
Rebekah Ramey recently attended the South
east Show hosted by UGA College of Agricul
tural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) to
learn about the college admissions process,
how to apply for financial aid and what
majors are available in CAES.
