Local Student Makes
Brewton-Parker Dean’s List
Elizabeth Faith-Ann Mathews of Waynesboro
qualified for the Dean’s List at Brewton-Parker
College of Mount Vernon, Georgia, for the
spring 2016 semester, announced Dr. Robert
Brian, provost.
Qualifying students were enrolled in 12 or
more hours and earned a grade point average of
3.6 or better.
Jordan Named to the Spring 2016
Dean's List at USC Upstate
Daeundra Jordan of Hephzibah has been
named to the Spring 2016 Dean's List at the
University of South Carolina Upstate.
To be eligible for the Dean's List, freshmen
students must earn a 3.25 or higher and be en
rolled in at least 12 course hours and upperclass
men must earn a 3.5 or higher and be enrolled in
at least 12 course hours.
Thompson Takes Honors
In Budapest
Alexandra Thompson of Hephzibah recently
took part in the "Laurea Mundi Budapest" Festi
val of Choral Music in Budapest, Hungary, with
the Georgia Southern Chorale and the Southern
Gentlemen, who won in competition July 9-13.
The Georgia Southern Chorale, directed by
Shannon Jeffreys, D.M.A., won the Grand Prix
in the mixed choir category and the spirituals
category. David Langley, Ph.D., served as the
assistant director.
The Southern Gentlemen, directed by student
Colin Harrison, won the open category in pop
music and was invited to sing against the Georgia
Southern Chorale in the Grand Prix.
The Chorale also participated in a number
of workshops and masterclasses at the festival.
93 years of life

ebrated his 93rd birthday
Saturday. His children, grand
children and great-grandchil
dren treated him to a seafood
dinner at Ocean Galley res
taurant in Statesboro.

TORRI HAYNES WILL REPRESENT GEORGIA IN CALIFORNIA PAGEANT
Torri Haynes, daughter of Shirley Haynes,
competed in the Georgia State Pageant for
the National American Miss title on July
1, 2016. As a result of her hard work in
gathering advertisements, she was crowned
State Ambassador for Georgia. The pageant
is dedicated to celebrating the greatness of
today’s girls with an emphasis on preparing
young ladies to be the leaders of tomorrow.
The pageant program is for girls ages four
through eighteen who compete in different
age groups with all activities being age ap
propriate.
As State Ambassador, Tom will represent
Georgia as she travels to Anaheim, Califor
nia in the National Pageant in Hollywood
at Disneyland as a finalist in the National
All-American Miss Pageant in November
to compete for the title of National Cover
Model. Good luck Torri; bring home the
title!

diabetics learn how to better
control their diabetes through
