People say that time heals. You have been
gone 2,922 days. That's 417 weeks and
3 days. That's the same as 70,128 hours

teaches us how to live without you!
We miss you everyday!

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Let’s work together to protect our deputies
EDITOR:
Sometimes we (without any thought) take some of the most
important things for granted. We believe that one of these is the
protection we receive from of Burke County Sheriff’s deputies.
We do this without any thought of the protection that we citizens
should provide them.
After much thought, the idea of providing our law enforcement
officers with new bullet proof vests, to replace their outdated
ones, comes to mind.
We took this idea to the August meeting of the Burke County
Board of Commission, asking each commissioner to help provide
vests by donating one month of their commission salaries.
Commissioners Wayne Crockett and Allen DeLaigle both
agreed to personally provide funds for one vest each, at a cost
of $1,300 per vest.
This is nothing to be taken lightly. The deputies protect us ...
let’s do something to protect them.
We have also committed to providing funds for one vest, and
are asking other fellow citizens to step up and do the same.
Please send donations to:

LETTER TO
THE EDITOR
Boys and Girls Club needs
neutral location
EDITOR:
For the Boys and Girls Club,
we should learn from our mis
takes. The Boys and Girls Club
is a good idea, but the [pro
posed] location on 9th Street is
all wrong.
The old TG&Y is a good
location because it is in a neu
tral location, just as the public
school system is.
The 9th Street location is in
a black neighborhood. White
parents are not going to bring
their children there and leave
them. The [former] recreation
department pool was in a black
neighborhood, and white par
ents did not bring their children.
That’s why we have three
private schools in Waynesboro.
There is also an empty build
ing in the Walmart shopping
center. The facility on 9th
Street, which is currently A
Child’s World Daycare, should
stay a daycare for those chil
dren.
We need a Boys and Girls
Club that is not in a totally
black neighborhood.
When you look at what your
elected officials are doing with
the SPLOST budget, the pro
posed Aquatic Center is out but
they are spending $500,000 for
jail improvements.
Who is going to the jail to see
the improvements?
So our elected officials are
more concerned about jail im
provements than an Aquatics
Center for our children?
We, as adults, need a Boys
and Girls Club for all our chil
dren ... not in a black neighbor
hood, but in a neutral location
for all boys and girls of Burke
County.
We need everyone in the
community working together.
We need more love in Waynes
boro.
