MAX BURNS:
We double-dared local fifth- and sixth-graders to give us goosebumps in our annual Spooky Story Contest, and
these aspiring authors answered the call. A judging staff made up of local volunteers narrowed the field to their
15 favorites, and now, it’s time for our readers to pick the winner by voting online in the weekly poll at www. TheT-
rueCitizen.com. The student with the most votes as of 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, will get his/her photo in next week’s
paper and win a pizza party for his or her entire class, compliments of Papa’s Pizza to Go.

Once upon a time there was a boy who took 10 baths a day.
His name was Jean. Jean decided he wanted to buy sparkly
new soap and went to his mom's room and asked to go to the
store. So while his mother was driving him he thought of the
name people at school called him. Clean Jean. He wanted
everyone to stop bullying him, especially Troy. So he wanted
to try changing to stop being bullied. He talked to his mother
and she told him to not change for anyone. “If people don’t
accept you that's their problem,” his mother said.
As they got to the store, he saw a poster with shiny red
soap and it was by his favorite company. He saw the price
and frowned. But he shook off his nerves and asked his mom.
“That's 50 dollars!” she said. “But his birthday is in 5 days”
she thought. So she swiped the card and Jean got his soap.
As soon as Jean got home he went in the bath and used his
soap. He saw a nice car outside and got distracted, dropped the
soap and tripped on it and sadly, he died. Jean thought he was
dreaming as he saw his body just lying on the floor.
He was mad and the thought of Clean Jean came back to
him. He thought that if he was normal he could have waited
to use the soap. Then he heard a loud scream and it was his
mother. Now he felt bad. If he never got the soap his mother
wouldn't have to see her child dead in the tub. He was mad for
his mistakes, and he went down the path of revenge.
He switched from soap to soap, injuring students for the
names they called him. And then he accidently switched to the
soap his teacher displayed in her room. It was bright green and
he felt this power flowing through him. It was almost like like
he could move! And he did but nobody was in the classroom
so when he moved nobody noticed. It was very dark so he
couldn’t see that good. Jean’s big head and small brain hnally
realized he couldn’t open the door.
He just switched and switched, and he hnally got to the big
gest bully of all — Troy. He hit and hit, jumped and jumped,
until Troy fell with blood coming from his eye, forehead and
legs. Jean was furious with no mercy.
He killed him, and he continued as THE SOAR

There once was a black cat named Midnight who lived in a
nice, sweet little town called Sweettensbruge. One day, Mid
night was roaming the streets and saw a spider. She chased the
spider down the street, but then the spider climbed up a pole.
It jumped on her head and bit her!
All of a sudden, Midnight grew. She grew tall and could stand
on her back paws. Her teeth were sharp and long. Midnight
went from house to house terrorizing the people and stealing
their candy all night. However, when the sun came up, she
started to shrink. She was small and could no longer stand on
her back paws. Her teeth were small and dull.
To this day, every night she grows and terrorizes the people,
and every morning she shrinks.
I just bought my first
house. It was an old house
that needed a lot of repairs.
I started doing some of the
work myself. I started with
tearing down some walls. You won’t believe what I found!
The walls were covered in old newspaper. I read the news
papers, and they were about missing children. I was shocked
because I recognized some of the people: Sam, Parker and
Sawyer. These children had been missing for four years.
I called the cops to come and investigate what I found. When
they came, they brought K9s with them. They started sniffing
around the house doing a search. All three dogs stopped on
the stairs and barked. The cops grabbed three hammers and
tore up the stairs. They found three skeletons! The lab tested
the bones, and they turned out to be the missing children Sam,
Parker and Sawyer.
The house was destroyed after that.
and were never seen again.

It was a normal day at school.
Lilly, Madison, and Elizabeth
were eating lunch. The teacher asked
them to go back to the classroom to
get something. They saw a bunch
of envelopes on the playground and
decided to go get them and ask the teacher about it.
The teacher said that she did not know who the envelopes
belonged to so she said to throw them away because they were
empty. When they were about to throw the envelopes away,
Elizabeth realized that there was a puzzle piece inside each
of the ten envelopes. The girls were told to go back to lunch,
so they put the envelopes in
Madison's book bag.
The next day, they decided
they would get to school early
to open the envelopes. They
got to school and were about to
open the envelopes when they
heard a loud noise. They ran
outside to see what it was. They
didn’t see anything outside,but
when they were walking inside,
they noticed a shadow that
looked weird. They went back
to open the envelopes and put
the puzzle pieces together. It
was just white with no pictures,
but when they looked closer the
same shadow they saw earlier
appeared on the white puzzle.
Suddenly, they turned around
and the shadow now had a face
that was blurry with red eyes
and sharp teeth. The girls made
eye contact with the red eyes
