Life Lines
By Linda Lariscey
YOUR HEART IS AN ALTAR
Are not those who eat of the sacrifices
partakers of the altar?... and I do not want you
to have fellowship with demons. 21 You cannot
drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons;
you cannot partake of the Lord's table and of the
table of demons (1 Corinthians 10:18-21 NKJV).
An altar will alter you! An altar is a place to give an offering of something
or someone. Altars are life-changing due to the power behind them; they
or either righteous or evil. Divine exchanges occur because of them.
Your heart is an altar. The prayers of an undivided heart of loyalty to
Christ are like incense that rise into the courts of heaven. God exchanges
them for whatever you need, and your cup runs over.
Sadly, the altar of your heart can be a table for demonic exchange. The
spiritworld cuts both ways. Whatever or whoever you bow down to other
than Father God is a sacrifice on the altar of your heart. Unknowingly
you invite the fellowship of demonic powers into your life through sinful
desires. Doing business with the devil never turns out good no matter
how pleasant it seems in the beginning. The deeper you slide into his
hell hole the harder it is to emerge from it.
Clear the table of your heart from thoughts of evil and unbelief. Eat
from it the word of God. Do not eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of
Good and Evil of which the world partakes. “Come near to God, and he
will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your
hearts, you double-minded (James 4:8). Keep your heart open to God
and clean of this world. Out of it flows the quality of your life.
Christ calls us into a sacrificial life. He gave Himself up for us on the
altar of the cross. You and I are to pick up ourcross and follow Him. Put
yourself on the altar of the cross as a living sacrifice, which is the true
worship of Jesus. Jesus said we are to pick up our cross daily because
the trouble with living sacrifices is, they keep crawling off the altar.

Commission
Continued from front
one of the five candidates for
EMA.”
Fleming interjected the
conversation to clear up
confusion. “Commissioners,
this change simply allows you
to approve or disapprove of
department head nominations
that are brought before you by
the county administrator,” he
said. “I just wanted to clarify
that.”
Lively addressed the board
one last time before sitting.
“Please put your personal
preferences aside and do what
is right for Burke County,” he
said.
Martin added, “We’re doing
this because we want to have
input on one of the candidates
who made it to the top five.”
Local business owner Ashley
Hammett then addressed the
commissioners. “Y’all keep
moving the goal post,” he
said. “A year ago you made
him county manager and now
he’s not good enough? What
happened in twelve months?
I’ve dealt with Merv since he
came here, and while he might
not always do things the way I
wanted, I’ll tell you one thing
- he always puts Burke County
first.”
Abrams clarified that the
board’s intention was not to
demote or fire Waldrop, to
which Hammett responded,
“It wasn’t an issue ... why is
it now?”
“This is not the place for
this discussion,” Abrams said,
while Martin added, “Lewis
Blanchard is not in the top
five. Did you get that in the
minutes? We want to have
input on the top five.” He went
on to say that he was not going
to mention something but was
“tired of hearing about it.”
“He (Waldrop) should have
conducted himself in public
like a county manager.”
Chairperson Terri Lodge
Kelly took control of the
meeting, informing the public
that of the 14 applicants, a top
five had in fact been selected
and that she had sat in on the
interviews thus far. “I saw the
process firsthand,” she said.
“We had someone from the
State EMA Council give an
outside look to see if we were
on target with the five, and
they picked the exact same five
that we had chosen, not in the
same order, but the same five.
I believe the process is being
done fairly and professionally.”
Abrams moved to pass the
ordinance on a single reading,
and Commissioner George
DeLoach seconded the motion
with Evans voting yes. Kelly
and Commissioner Tommy Nix
voted against it. The motion
passed 3-2.
