Christmas tree farm
to hold grand opening

The trees stand at attention
like rows of green soldiers —
tall and strong and with a story
waiting to be shared.
For three and a half years,
they grew; approximately the
same duration of Christ’s min
istry on earth.
For Stephanie Scott, that’s
nowhere near coincidence.
“We are blessed to even have
the land,” she says,referencing
an odd turn of events that led to
its purchase on the courthouse
steps, “but God provided every
step of the way.”
This weekend, Scott Family
Farm invites the community to
come share in the experience as
they open the Christmas tree
farm for the very first time.
“My dad would have loved
to be here,” Stephanie says,
reminiscing on those Decem
ber days in 2017 when he
helped plant the trees. “We lost
him in February 2018, so this is
a sweet moment for us.”
The farm offers two kinds
of trees: the Murray Cypress,
which Stephanie says fall
between 7 to 12 feet in height
and grow well in this area, and
the Carolina Sapphire, which
is a slower grower, and stands
between 5 to 8 feet. These are
a smoke color and hypoaller
genic. Next season, the farm
will haul in the ever popular
Frazier Fir, which is not grown
here, from North Carolina.
Both types will be available
for purchase at the farm, and
there are additional options for
those wanting a more color
ful Christmas. Want a bright
pink or UGA-themed tree?
They can assist. The Scotts
use a coloring spray specific
for vegetation to “paint” trees
to their new owners liking.
“It’s environmentally friendly,
nontoxic and will not flake
off,” Stephanie says. “We
can spray one color or five; it
takes about an hour to dry, so
it’s not instant. We will have a
few of several colors available
this weekend and can do every
color of the rainbow.
During this Friday and Satur
day, the farm will also feature
a pop up shop of
jewelry, soaps,
wreaths, pottery
and hand-painted
wood ornaments.
There will be a
photo booth and
a Letters to Santa
mailbox.
To the Scott
family, the en
deavor is about
much more than
turning a profit.
“We want this
space to be fam
ily-oriented and
affordable. It is
not fancy but it
is pretty,” she says, adding
that FFA students from the
Georgia School for Innova
tion and Classics, where she
is a teacher will be working at
the farm. Any donation to their
organization will be rewarded
for a jar of honey.
“A portion of all proceeds
will be donated to charity as
part of our give back to the
community,” she continues.
“We also hope to promote agri
tourism in the upcoming years
with every part of the farm
(honey and trees) and have
school groups out.”
All in all, Stephanie sees the
farm, and especially the trees,
as a way to help explain the
gospel.
“They reminds us gift-giving
is originally from the Magi
and the Christ child. People
often question Christianity;
why would God send his son
only to crucify Him?” she said.
“Well, we planted these trees
only to chop them down and
bring you joy and hope in the
winter season.”
These hand-painted wood ornaments will
be available for purchase.
