Clark Drug celebrates anniversary
with long awaited ribbon cutting

When Starr Clark decided
to open her own pharmacy in
Waynesboro, her patients fol
lowed her faithfully. It wasn’t
for the coffee bar, Honey’s
cheesecakes or the unique gift
and clothing items also stocked
inside the store alongside
bottles and boxes of medica
tion. It was the smiles behind
the counter and knowing they
were in good hands.
She knew from a young age
she wanted to be a pharmacist
as helping others always seems
to find its way to the top of
her list. She started out at Mil-
len Pharmacy in high school,
and it was while scooping ice
cream at Hodgson's Pharmacy
in Athens during college that
she found her calling.
Fast forward several years
serving as a pharmacist in
Waynesboro, and Clark wanted
to take the next step and open
her own business. Little did
she know she’d spend her first
year of operation navigating a
national health pandemic.
“I won’t he; it’s been tough,”
she said, following a ribbon
cutting ceremony on Friday
afternoon. “But from the very
beginning, I have had a feeling
of calm about this, that this was
where I am supposed to be.”
Patients were thankful Clark
felt that way, especially when
things began shutting down,
as the need for medication
and medical care was still
very essential. She utilized
her drive-thru and extended
delivery services, reaching as
far as Sardis and Millen.
“Managing the healthcare
of our patients is the most
important thing we do, so we
had to make sure those needs
were met,” she said, adding
that the year has also been a

sad one at times because of all
the regulations. “We have lost
so many, not only to COVID
but to almost everything, and
that has been the toughest part,
especially when we weren’t
able to say our goodbyes.”
Still, Clark Drug Company
had persevered through per
haps the strongest year yet, and
finally was able to celebrate
its grand opening — just a
year late.
“The most important part of
a journey is your support sys
tem. Not only in business, but
in life in general and I have the
best,” she said. “Not only my
fabulous techs and clerks but
my family, my church family
at Millen United Methodist
Church, my friends, our fabu
lous Waynesboro healthcare
workers, and most of all, my
wonderful patients. They have
been precious. They have
checked on me and prayed
for me (and the business) and
given me not only their busi
ness but their kindness.”

Downtown Christmas
parade slated for Saturday

The theme for the Down
town Waynesboro Christmas
parade isn’t “A COVID
Christmas,” but it very well
could be as the virus has
changed much about the
annul event, which is this
Saturday.
While there won’t be any
dancing or float competi
tions, as the parade was
initially canceled due to lack
of participation, Downtown
Development Authority Di
rector Don Lively says it’ll
still be a jolly good time.
“People were devastated
when we canceled, and they
reached out to us,” Lively
said, “adding that the board
of directors decided to give
it another shot. “We don’t
have a huge lineup like usual,
but we are going to make
the most of it. Our citizens
wanted a parade, and we
wanted to do our best to make
it possible in these unprec
edented times.”
Lively went on to say that
social distancing is encour
aged throughout the event.
The procession will begin
along Liberty Street at 1
p.m., but participants need to
be lined up at the Exchange
Club fairgrounds by 11:30
a.m. Groups or individu
als who want to participate
should contact Lively at
donlively.dda@gmail.com or
706.554.8018.
As usual, a special chunky
elf will bring up the caboose
of the parade.
