Old Girard school gets
historical designation

The old Girard Elementary
School has been designated as
a historical site by the Georgia
Historical National Register
Review Board. The school,
built in the 1950s as one of
the first “separate but equal”
schools in Georgia, is also in
line to be recognized nation
ally.
Ruby L. Carter, a member
of WG3.0 LLC, the entity
working to preserve the school,
extended the group’s appre
ciation this week to a number
of people responsible for the
designation.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS ATTHE COURTHOUSE
Students from the Waynesboro Mennonite School will
be performing Christmas carols in front of the historic
courthouse in Waynesboro on Wednesday, Dec. 23, for
the community. Principal Kendall Myers said the group
will start around 10:45 a.m. and will sing various songs
for approximately 20 minutes or so. The public is invited
to attend.
Burke County in Partnership with the Georgia Department of Revenue
will upgrade its Georgia DRIVES Motor Vehicles System
The Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) is upgrading to a new version of the Georgia
Driver Record and Integrated Vehicle Enterprise System (DRIVES). This upgrade will keep us
up to date with the latest technology advances and will ensure we have access to the most
recent enhancements and features of the software. During this upgrade all Motor Vehicle
transactions will be suspended. Scheduled outages are listed below.
