OBITUARIES
Virginia Y. Williams
Mrs. Virginia Y. Williams entered into eternal
rest on January 10,2021. Funeral arrangements
will be announced at a later date.
Phinazee and Son Funeral Home is in charge
of the arrangements.
Daryl Lynn Dye
Daryl Lynn Dye, 45, entered into rest January 11,2021. He
was the husband of Tennie Yates Dye.
Daryl was bom in Augusta, Georgia on January 26, 1975 to
the late Wayne, Jr. & Frances Hebbard Dye.
He was a construction worker and a member of Victory Baptist
Church.
Additional survivors include his daughters, Kayla Mineart;
Kennedy Dye; brothers, Howard Dye, Pat Dye and Steve Blan
kenship ; sisters, Vickie Bricky, Angel Gayman and Debbie Willis.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16,2021
at 1645 Magmder Road Midville, Georgia 30441 at 2:00 p.m.

Matt Abrams
Burke County
Sheriff’s Office
Matt Abrams trained at the Richmond
County Police Academy and worked in law
enforcement as a police officer for the
Waynesboro Police Department from
1972-1974. At that time, he left the WPD to
join the U.S. Postal Service, where he
worked until he retired. Abrams is currently
employed as a bailiff at the Burke County
Courthouse, a position he has held since
2012. He has held employment in Burke
County in other capacities since 2008.
Mr. Abrams does a great job of ensuring
the safety and security of the courthouse
on a daily basis. He always works with a
positive attitude and is helpful to everyone,
and Burke County is thankful to have him
on the team. He is also a member of the
Waynesboro Optimist Club and serves on
the Burke County Board of Elections as
well. Born in Waynesboro, Abrams resides
in his hometown today with his wife, Betty.

Pvt.
Jesse Bragg
Burke County
EMA Office
Pvt. Jesse Bragg has been employed with Burke
County EMA since September 2007. He received
his initial EMS and Firefighter training from Burke
County EMA. Pvt. Bragg is stationed at the EMA
headquarters on shift 2 as a Firefighter/EMT and
is also a member of Support One. Support One is
a CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management)
team that helps other first responders deal with
critical incidents, such as the loss of a fellow first
responder and other difficult to deal with
losses/events and is made up of various first
responder organizations including Augusta Fire
Department, Burke County EMA, Columbia
County Fire Rescue, North Augusta Department
of Public Safety to name a few.
Pvt. Bragg is originally from Tybee Island, and he
and his wife, Margaret, currently reside in Evans.
They are the proud parents of their daughter,
Mary Faye. Pvt. Bragg attended Aquinas High
School, and most of his family lives across the
CSRA. When not on duty, he says he enjoys
working on cars, driving in the mountains and
racing on racetracks. Thank you for all that you
do for Burke County and beyond Pvt. Bragg!

Two local girls were big winners thanks to the Burke County
Public Library. Scarlett Webb, above, and Sarah Kitchens, below,
won the library’s Winter Reading Contest and each received a

Burke County in Partnership with the Georgia Department of Revenue
will upgrade its Georgia DRIVES Motor Vehicles System
The Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) is upgrading to a new version of the Georgia
Driver Record and Integrated Vehicle Enterprise System (DRIVES). This upgrade will keep us
up to date with the latest technology advances and will ensure we have access to the most
recent enhancements and features of the software. During this upgrade all Motor Vehicle
transactions will be suspended. Scheduled outages are listed below.
