OBITUARIES
Simeon Alexander Gray
Kevin Barnes
Mildred Cohen Coleman
Simeon Alexander Gray, 94, entered into the presence of
his Lord and Savior at his home on January 17,2021. He was
born in Augusta on April 24,1926, as
the only child of S.A. Gray, Sr. and
Agnes McConnico Gray.
A lifelong resident of Waynes
boro, he graduated from Waynesboro
High School and attained the rank of
Eagle Scout. He attended Clemson
University before entering the Army
during World War II. He was seriously
injured in Germany and was awarded
the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star,
and was credited with the Battle of
the Bulge.
After his service in the Army, he graduated from Georgia
Teachers’ College (Georgia Southern). He taught school one
year and spent the rest of his career with the U.S. Postal Service
as a clerk and rural mail carrier. He loved the Lord, serving as
a deacon and children’s Sunday school teacher at his beloved
First Baptist Church. He was a regular member of the former
BI-LO Coffee Club. For years, Alec was often seen riding his
bicycle all over Waynesboro and Burke County.
He was a gracious, kind Southern gentleman always think
ing of others and putting them first. He was a faithful, devoted
husband, and a loving father.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Blocker Gray; a
son, John Timothy Gray of Waynesboro; a sister-in-law, Mary
B. Hammond; a brother-in-law, Don Blocker; and a number
of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday,
January 20,2021, prior to the 11:00 a.m. service at First Baptist
Church, Waynesboro with Dr. G. A1 Wright, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family asks that
masks be worn and social distancing be observed.

Perritt Landrum Rabun, Sr.
Perritt Landrum Rabun, Sr., 65, completed his earthly jour
ney on Saturday, January 9,2021. He was bom on September
14, 1955, in Albany, GA to the late
George and Agnes McElroy Rabun
and was a lifelong resident of Burke
County.
Perritt’s education included techni
cal training in electrical maintenance.
His early employment included dis
patcher for the Waynesboro Police
Department and 15 years with Georgia
Power as Plant Vogtle’s Units 1 and
2 were being constructed. He was a
QC Inspector before traveling to various assignments around
the state.
The past 30 plus years he has operated a game bird operation
in Waynesboro, first with a good friend and partner and then as
sole proprietor. Rabun Gamebirds grew quail and pheasant for
land owners, dog trainers, held trials, and hunting preserves.
He served clients across Georgia, the southeast, and as far as
Indiana.
Perritt loved his work and his clients. He spent much time
learning the art of growing top quality birds and worked with
biologists to understand habitats and care. He enjoyed duck
hunting, spending time with his dogs, and helping his clients.
In everything Perritt did he loved his family and made sure
he took care of them. He loved to talk and had a ready smile
or laugh. He will be missed in ways we are only beginning to
understand. He is a treasure to his family. In addition to his par
ents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carey Wayne Daniel.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Catherine Cates
Rabun; two sons, Perritt Landrum Rabun, Jr. and Mark Daniel
(Jessica); three grandsons, Peyton Rabun, Bryson Daniel, and
Caleb Mobley; and a granddaughter, Kinsey Daniel.
Memorial Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January
22 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Matt Wigley offici
ating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the
service. Due to Covid-19, please practice all social distancing
guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity
of one’s choice.

Val Prescott, Steve Sirmons, Jason McKerley
Kevin Barnes, 29, entered into rest Monday, January 11,
2021. He was a native of Augusta and had lived most of
his life in Burke County. He was a
2010 graduate of Burke County High
School. Kevin was currently an em
ployee with Scoffs Heating and Air.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who
enjoyed fishing and riding ATVs.
He is survived by his wife, Sky
Barnes; his mother, Renea Barnes
(Junior Coleman) of Jefferson Coun
ty; his father, Tony Barnes (Trish
Copeland) of Jesup; a sister, Selina
Hammock (Ben) of Girard; a brother, Wayne Barnes of Jef
ferson County; maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Ellenberg of
Hephzibah; and a niece, Marley Holmes of Augusta.
The family received friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Fri
day, January 15 at the funeral home. Graveside Services were
held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16 at the Davisboro City
Cemetery, Davisboro, Ga.
Remembrances may be made to the Children’s Hospital of
Augusta.

Mildred Cohen Coleman, 67, slipped into the loving arms
of her Savior on January 13, 2021 from complications with
Covid-19 and multiple myeloma at
University Hospital. Mildred bravely
fought through many standard and
trailblazing treatments for her dis
eases. Mildred loved life but loved
her Savior more.
Mildred was born on January 4,
1954 at University Hospital in Au
gusta. She was the oldest of four chil
dren born to Mimi and Porter Cohen.
She was raised in Waynesboro, Ga.,
graduated from Edmond Burke Academy and attended the
University of Georgia. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.
She taught in both private and public schools in Waynesboro,
Ga. In 1977, Mildred married Charles Coleman and for the
remainder of her life, built and provided a wonderful home
for her adoring husband and four wonderful children. Her
life until the time of her death was centered around her faith,
family, and friends.
Mildred was a founding member of the Open-Door Sunday
School Class of Trinity on the Hill Methodist and for over 30
years a loyal member of First Presbyterian Church of Augusta
and a member of Covenanters Sunday School Class. She was
active for many years in various capacities at Westminster
Schools of Augusta. She was also a member of All Seasons
Garden Club.
Mildred was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine
Scardato and mother, Mimi Cohen.
She is survived by her husband: Dr. Charles Coleman, of 43
wonderful years and their four girls: Mimi Grinalds (Allen),
Katherine Johnson (Brown), Mary Charles Snoddy (Mark),
and Sarah Coleman, all of Augusta; 12 grandchildren: Allen
Grinalds, Charlie Grinalds, Porter Grinalds, Mimi Barrett Gri
nalds , Southy Grinalds, Edwin Grinalds, Millie Johnson, Sims
Johnson, George Johnson, Jones Johnson, Sadie Snoddy, and
Margaret Snoddy; two stepchildren, Chili Coleman (Sarah),
and Jane Bray Sidler (David).
Mildred is additionally survived by her father, Porter Co
hen, of Waynesboro, sister: Mary Wills (John) of Thomson;
brother: Jim Cohen (Debbie) of Lawrenceville; sister-in-law:
Sadie Maguire (Sam) as well as eight nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Saturday, January 16,2021 at
11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Franks
and Dr. Mike Hearon officiating. For those unable to attend,

sAug. Interment followed in Historic Magnolia Cemetery in
Waynesboro at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers were Dr. Charles Green,
Dr. Stan Smith, Dr. Shelley Griffin, Dr. James B. Davis, Dr.
J. Ben Deal, Barrett Wills, Charles Wills, and Hank Cohen.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made
to Westminster Schools of Augusta, First Presbyterian Church
of Augusta, or the Myeloma Program Fund at Winship Cancer
Center of Emory University, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400,
Atlanta, GA 30322.
