RICK "PRECIOUS" & MISSY JONES
Do you believe in love at first sight?
From the moment I laid eyes on my precious husband, I knew
he was my soul mate. I knew in my heart that God made him
just for me. I was working at the Lake restaurant and told my
coworker I’m going to marry this man. I served him bad orange
juice not once but twice that day. It’s his favorite story to tell!
The rest is history. Precious is not only my husband, but he is
my best friend. After 12 years, I still get butterflies when I see
him or even think about him. He shows me his love for me every
day. I love to see The Bloom Room pull up because I know I’m
getting a prize.
What makes our love so special? It’s very simple — Precious
and I are a team. Without each other we are lost. There is no I or
me; it is us. I prayed all my life for a man to love me for me, and
I got more than I deserve. I thank God for our love every day. “I
have found the one whom my soul loves.” Song of Solomon 3:4
ERIC & NIKKI LEVER
Eric and I had been friends all through high school. We both
dated other people. After our college years, we became closer
friends. Neither one of us were dating anyone else. We started
hanging out all of the time. I could tell that I was starting to have
feelings for him, but I would not tell him because I thought he
would never love me other than friendship love.
New Years Eve of 1994, he went to north Georgia to see an
other girl friend and celebrate the New Year with her family. I
was sad. I went to Watch Night Service at my church that night,
but I couldn’t stop thinking about Eric. When I returned from
church, Daddy said, “Eric called you to say Happy New Year.”
I was confused. Why was Eric calling me when he was visiting
another girl?
The next day, Eric came to my house and told me that he loved
me, not just as his friend, but that he was in love with me. I was
in shock. I barely said three words. He left my house thinking
that he ruined our friendship. When he called the next day, I told
him, “I love you the same way, and I have for many months.”
We decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend. A year later, he took
me to Charleston, South Carolina, to 82 Queen Restaurant. After
our dinner, I didn’t want dessert; however, I agreed to take cof
fee. The waitress brought my coffee. She also brought a dessert
plate with strawberries in a circle, and in the center was whipped
cream with a diamond engagement ring. I said “yes.” We married
on Oct. 12,1996.
Marriage takes work. The best advice I received was from Eric’s
Aunt Brenda, who told me, “You may not always like each other,
but you must love each other. Love is a decision. Sometimes you
make that decision many times a day.”
Em thankful!
TOMMY & CINDY QUICK
It all began in 1965 when Rev. Henry Erwin, pastor of Waynes
boro First United Methodist Church, and his wife, Lila, decided to
take a group of teenagers on a 30-day camping and canoeing trip.
Washington D.C., the New York Worlds Fair, 10 days canoeing the
Allagash Waterway in Northern Maine and Quebec City were all
on their itinerary. In order to cut down on the expense of lodging,
the group spent many nights in sleeping bags spread out on the
floors of local churches, and one of these was in Patten, Maine.
As a recent high school graduate, I had a summer job working at
a nearby hotel. It had been a long, hard day, and I was tired when
I got home, but our church youth group was hosting a cookout
for the visiting southerners. I really had no desire to spend time
with a bunch of strangers, but my mother insisted that I go since
I was one of the older members of our group (and one of the few
with a license).
That night changed my life. It was then that I met Tommy
Quick, the person with whom I would spend the rest of my life
(after four years of college). We corresponded for a while, and
then two years later, Tommy was again on a trip to Maine with
Brother Henry and Lila. I was working for the summer at a resort
in southern Maine, so Tommy asked Stacy, their Maine guide, if
he could borrow his truck on Sunday. I begged for the day off;
we spent it riding and talking, and we both knew we had some
thing special. After a few trips to Maine via Greyhound Bus, he
proposed, and a year later, we were married.
Our first year of married life doesn't really count, as he left
for Vietnam 30 days after the wedding. Then came two years in
Fort Worth, Texas, and our older daughter Angela. Four years at
Loring AFB in Maine brought daughter Rebecca to our family,
and the last 44 years have been here in Waynesboro, adding four
grandchildren and a great-grandson to our crew.
Brother Henry told me many years ago, "I always told all of our
young people not to get involved with anyone they met on our
trips. I thought Tommy was the last one I had to worry about."
Famous last words!
BRIAN & ERIN SAXON
In high school, I would have never given that 6 foot plus, tight
jeans and belt buckle-wearing guy a second glance. Me, captain
of the cheerleading squad and the typical "do-gooder"; him,
present most days.
However, flash forward to circa 2011,1 was just recovering
from a very harsh relationship when that same guy once again
approached me, at a bar, and asked for my number. He was still
tall, but his style and amount of facial hair had changed. I sucked
it up, gave him my number when he asked. Never thought twice
about it afterwards.
About a week later, while in the hospital waiting room, I re
ceived a text asking how I was doing, and eventually if I would
like to go to dinner. He thought I was lying when I told him I was
at the hospital waiting for my nephew to make his grand arrival.
I agreed to meet him at dinner the next night. Who doesn't like
a free, yummy meal?
During dinner we talked. Did we have the same interests? Not
really. Were we in the same galaxy when in came to our career
paths? Not even close. However, a three-hour dinner at an Italian
restaurant showed that there was some chemistry.
About a year later, that big, tall, goofy guy proposed to me, in
front of our friends and family, at that same Italian restaurant.
Six months later, a wedding followed. Then a pregnancy, a birth,
another pregnancy and another birth. Yes, not one, but two babies
in a year's time. We never really got to be a newlywed couple. I
am sure we aged quite a bit from 2013-2015.
Our lives were crazy for quite a while, que the visions of a
rollercoaster spinning out of control; I thought about leaving,
running, but then I would hop off and hop right back on, strap
in and ride again and again.
Now, things have slowly begin to calm down. Soon to be year
eight of or marriage, and we are finally learning how to get this
right. He has grown up and so have I. I’ve realized that there is
no perfect marriage, but without fighting for it, I would've slung
myself right off that ride several years ago. I love him and he
loves me. He has become a great friend, a wonderful father and
pretty handsome to look at.
Our love story is not typical, but which ones truly are? I love
him and he loves me. That's all we need.
