Youth livestock projects have
played an active role in the suc
cess of our local students for
several years. The purpose of
organization like 4-H and FFA
are to develop leadership, life
skills and citizenship for its
members. Students who ex
hibit youth livestock projects
also develop social skills, good
character, work ethic and re
sponsibility. The culmination
of months of hard work and
practice payed off for Burke
students at the Georgia Junior
National Livestock Show in
Perry. This four-day event is
the state livestock show for 4-FI
and FFA students, which was
held February 17-20,2021.
Thirteen youth represent
ing Burke County 4-FI and
FFA participated in shows
throughout the winter months
to prepare for the state show.
The Burke County Show Team
is currently comprised of three
species: dairy heifers, breed
ing ewes, and market hogs.
Participants with dairy heifers
include: Keshon Winns, Trent
Reddick, Ashlyn Reddick, Jiles
Coble, Sydney Coble, Liam
Edenheld, Murray Liz Flow
ers, Abby Joyner, Holt Sapp,
Sara Morgan Sapp and Emree
Williams. These exhibitors
showed 24 dairy heifers total.
Keshon, Ashlyn, and Abby

including a market barrow
as well as two market gilts.
Keshon Winns, Trent Red
dick, Ashlyn Reddick, Sydney
Coble, Audrey Kyzer, and Cole
Edenheld exhibited 10 breed

Four youth submitted record
books for their dairy projects
and placed in the top five for
their age group. Holt Sapp

placed 1st in the senior divi
sion, while Sara Morgan Sapp

Each of the kids excelled in

Homeless
Continued from front
The time for the next
quarterly event is approaching
quickly, and the task force is
reaching out to anyone who
may want to contribute. The
clothing and food giveaway
is scheduled for Saturday,
March 27, at 10 a.m. and will
be held at Magnolia Gardens
on the comer of Martin Luther
King Drive and Eighth Street.
“Our goal is to help those
who are less fortunate whether
in word, thought or deed,”
Higgins said.
£ £The Homeless Task
Force and other
initiatives like these
targeting our most vulnerable
citizens with the purpose of
helping to feed, clothe and
increase awareness is so very
important,” said Waynesboro
city clerk Jermaine Evans.
“I am new to the HTF, and I
want to play a part in helping.
One of the most surprising
situations I’ve witnessed
perpetuating an individual's
inability to gain assistance
is simply being unaware
of the help that exists. It
read
local.

really is encouraging to hear
the determination and focus
the members espouse in the
meetings about attending to
the business of caring for the
homeless. When other local
businesses and organizations
provide their influence and
make donations, that doesn’t
hurt either. There is so much
good work to do, and we can get
so much more accomplished
when we move with purpose
and on one accord.”
Mayor Carswell said the
group will soon have its own
building, and plans to continue
outreach are plentiful.
“We started this group
to help people. Homeless.
Hungry. Displaced. We are
all human, and the best way
to make a difference is to be
a difference,” he said. “I am
so proud of what this task
force has accomplished and
cannot wait to see the good it
continues to do in the future as
it grows.”
