“The secret to our success is hardwork, determination, and a good team,” Joe explains. The
team includes: Ashley Privette, Chris Neely, Joe, Mason, and Jenny Taylor.

“You have to constantly re

Joe Taylor. Those words ring
true for all entrepreneurs and
Joe Taylor has made good on
those words. With his wife
Jenny by his side, the two
have created Taylor Outdoor
Equipment.
The outdoor equipment
business was not what Joe
and Jenny originally started.
They opened their business
February, 2017 at 1013 N.
Liberty Street in Waynesboro
as a pallet sales business. Flea
markets, auction houses, and
the like could buy pallets of
discounted merchandise for re
sale. “There were times when
we didn’t know if we were
going to make it,” Joe states,
as he greets each customer that
comes in the door.
“I remember we got a pallet
of power equipment in and it
sold like hot cakes. There was
a need in Burke and Jenkins
County for that market.” A
year later, the couple started
Taylor Outdoor Equipment,
specializing in Husqvarna,
Gravely, Echo and Spartan
brands. The two found a niche
and haven’t looked back.
A few weeks ago the busi
ness relocated to 225 Old
Millen Highway, between
Salter’s Building Supply and
the former Heilig Meyers
Furniture building. “You have
to believe in yourself and take
chances in life,” Joe says, as he
remembers there were friends
and family who told them they
would never make it. “But, I
didn’t want my kids growing
up with babysitters and the
like, I wanted Jenny and I to
have family time.” The chil
dren, when not in school, are
in the office with their parents.
The couple has three boys and
have been married almost 6
years.
Joe and Jenny are natives of
Burke County. Joe attended
EBA and later worked as a
sheriff’s deputy for 10 years
before taking a job at Plant
Vogtle in 2009. He stayed
in that job for 11 years. His
parents, Jackie and Helen
Taylor instilled in their son a
strong work ethic and a sense
of duty. “My dad taught me
to treat everybody fairly. At
Taylor Outdoor Equipment, I
don’t want you as a customer
just one time. I want to build a
relationship with you that will
last a lifetime.”
Jenny attended Burke Coun
ty High School and received
an Associate’s Degree in Ac
counting from Augusta Techni
cal College in 2010. “Jenny is
the hardest working one here,”
Joe brags as Jenny blushes. The
young couple complement one
another as Jenny
works behind the
scenes and lets
Joe be the face of
the business.
Joe also has a
Millen connec
tion that almost
had him looking
in Jenkins County
for a location. His
maternal grand
father, Kizer Hil-
derbrand was a
prominent farm
er here and Joe
spent his child
hood attending family reunions
at Magnolia Springs State
Park. “My granddad wanted
my parents to name me after
him, I sure am glad they didn’t
listen,” he jokes.
In addition to lawn mowers,
Taylor Outdoor Equipment
sells hand held equipment and
lawn mower trailers. They also
offer financing. “We are a one
stop shop,” Joe says, as they
also offer in house repairs on
all makes and models with a
trained technician with over 40
years experience.
Taylor Outdoor Equipment
will hold a Grand Opening
and Open House Friday, April
16, from 8-5 with free hotdogs
from Duggs Doggs, and give
aways . Kicks 99 will also be on
site from 11a.m. - 1p.m.
“We have had a lot of sup
port from Waynesboro. Our
neighbors have been good to
us and we appreciate that,”
Joe concludes. Taylor Outdoor
Equipment is located at 225
Old Millen Highway, Waynes
boro. They can be reached by
calling 706-551-5094.
