They shattered school re
cords and came home with
medals around their necks and
smiles on their faces.
One of the youngest shin
ning stars at the Georgia In
dependent School Association
State AA Track Meet was
Edmund Burke Academy’s
Payton Palmer — an eighth-
grader who brought home the
state championship title in
the 400-meter and not only
recording her personal best
time (61.93 seconds) but also
breaking the school’s record
that was set back in the 90s.
Several other school records
were broken over the long
weekend of competition, in
cluding another 20-plus year
record previously set by Anna
Martin, Pamela Johnson, Kel
lie Joiner and Elizabeth Dixon
Broxton in 1996. This year’s
4x400 relay team consisting
of Palmer, Kensy Felix, Mor
gan Clark and Braelyn Reeves
became the new record holders
with a time of 4 minutes and
18 seconds, which was also
the team’s personal best and
earned them a second place
finish at state.
Felix, who is also an eighth-
grader, earned state runner-up
in both the 800-m (2:35) and
the 1600-m (5:42). She placed
fourth in the 3200-m (13:10,
personal best) and was fourth
in high point participation.
Clark, a senior, was state
runner-up in the 400-m, setting
her personal best with a time of
63.8 seconds. She also placed
fourth in discus, breaking the
school record and setting a
personal record with a throw
of 103 feet.
Reeves earned a third place
finish in the high jump (4’ 10).
The boys team also broke
some records, both on the
school and state level.
According to coach Daniel
Hannah, the 4x400 relay team
(Evan Hirschauer, Brantley
Jones, Carson Woods and Ea
son Waters) broke the school
record twice and finished sec
ond in state, also surpassing the
previous state record. Waters,
a senior, was just 0.7 seconds
away from breaking the 400-m
record and placed third in state.
The 4x100 relay team
(Hirschauer, Connor Syms,
Woods and Waters) place
fourth.
“We had a fantastic year,”
Hannah said. “The boys did
a great job of working hard
at practice everyday. They
even talked about how hard
we worked and how they felt
prepared the last day of the
meet. That was a joy to hear.
Thanks to all of our guys for
buying into what we were sell
ing. Special thanks to coach
Charley Waters for all of his
advice and insight. We lose
several seniors that were the
backbone of this team, but I’m
looking forward to what the
future holds for our track and
held program at EBA.”
EBAtracksters earned several medals and broke records during the state track meet.

The Spartans made a run
for the state title at Brunswick
Country Club last week and
managed to finish fourth in a
competition with 11 teams.
Edmund Burke Academy
Golf Coach Larry Keller said
Evan Hirschauer was the low
man for the Spartans, followed
by Garrett Jenkins, Andrew
Meeks, Lane Waters and Jor
dan Giles.
"We played well,” Keller
commented. “We have been
consistent all year, and we
continued that trend. We felt
we had a chance to finish in the
top five, and the guys played
well in blustery conditions on
the coast.”
EBA loses Meeks to gradu
ation this year, and Keller said
the team will return with a
strong group led by Hirschauer,
a rising senior.
"We look forward to improv
ing our region and state ranking
next year," he said.
Jenkins, a sophomore, took
the low medalist for the year
in a close contest with Waters.
The team finished fourth in
region.
