OBITUARIES
Joyce Smith Hendrix
Joyce Smith Hendrix “Me-Maw”, 89, entered into rest June
9,2021. She was born in Emanuel County to the late Ethel and
Bill Smith and has been a long
time resident of Burke County.
She was a retired seamstress
from Sardis Manufacturing Com
pany. In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her
husband, James Hubert Hendrix;
a son, James “Jimmy” Hubert
Hendrix, Jr.; four brothers, James
Smith, Bobby Smith, Sammie
Smith, and Ted Smith; and six
sisters, Jean S. Weathers, Billie
S. Arnold, Syble S. Sox,Ruby S.
Parham, Wanda S. Brantley, and
Patsy S. Arnold.
She is survived by live children, Delores Beasley (Ray) of
Statesboro, GA, Kay Rentner (Randy) of Thomasville, GA,
Dianne Vickrey (Larry) of Waynesboro, Ellen Hendrix (Phil)
of Augusta, and Sam Hendrix (Chundra) of Waynesboro; ten
grandchildren, Jimmy Beasley, Keith Beasley (Teri), Kacey
Gammon (Jason), Marisa Rentner (Tamara Serena), Larry
Vickrey, Jr. (Stacy), Laura McKerley (Jason), Jessica Spencer,
Cassidy Spencer, Rebecca Spencer, and Samoyria Joi Hen
drix; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; two
special friends, Daisy Brown and Connie Walker; and many
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 11
in the funeral home chapel. Visitation was one hour prior to
the service. Burial followed at Burke Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.

and public viewing will be held
from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Phinazee
and Son Funeral Home, 404 West
8th Street, Waynesboro, GA
30830.
His loving and devoted family will cherish his memories.

Harvey Lee James
Hephzibah, GA - Harvey Lee James, 88, beloved husband
of Dolores "Peggy" Martin James entered into rest on Tuesday,
June 8,2021 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at
the chapel of Chance and Hydrick
Funeral Directors, Friday, June
11, 2021, at 11:00 A.M., with
Pastor Perry Key officiating.
Interment followed in Hillcrest
Memorial Park.
Bom in Hephzibah, GAon June
20, 1932, he was the son of the
late Roy and Clara Wylds James
and made the Hephzibah area his
home all of his life. Mr. James
served in the US Navy during the
Korean War and went on to retire
from Procter and Gamble.
He loved to play his guitar and
was a big fan of classic country.
He loved NASCAR and has been
to many races. He was an avid
Atlanta Braves fan and looked
forward to watching the games
on TV. His favorite pastime was
his garden, he spent many hours
getting the helds plowed,planting
the garden and picking the veg
etables when they were ready. He was a longtime member of
Mount Lebanon Baptist Church and the back pew will never
be the same without him.
He was preceded in death by his sister Mae Clements.
In addition to his wife, Mr. James is survived by his daughter,
Shelby James Rogers (Jeff); his son, Martin James (Leslie);
his grandchildren Colby Rogers and Chase James; his sisters,
Damelle Tyner and Anne Tolbert; his brothers, Hilliard James
and Herman James; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Joshua Tyner, Matthew Tyner, Daniel
Tyner and Russell Logue.

Church Cemetery, Keysville,
Georgia 30816.
Visitation for the immediate
family will be held Wednesday,
June 16,2021 from 11:00- 12:00
p.m. and public viewing will be
held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Ph
inazee and Son Funeral Home,
404 West 8th Street, Waynesboro,
GA 30830.
