Man charged for
beating girlfriend
A Burke County man is fac
ing multiple charges after he
attacked his girlfriend at her
Clarks Place residence.
The victim had called for
help around midnight, June
22, but then travelled to the
sheriff’s office in Waynesboro.
She told Burke County Dep
uty Yarbrough that Travis
Walker had awakened her, be
gan yelling at her for unknown
reasons and started striking her
in the head and face with his
hands. She said he kicked her
across the jaw with his steel
toed boots. Yarbrough saw a
large laceration along the left
side of her jaw and blood on
her arms and chest.
She told the deputy that
Walker had taken her phone
away when she tried to call 911
and that her two children, who
were with her in the car, had
witnessed the entire incident.
A little before 12:30 a.m. Lt.
Plueger and Deputy Yarbrough
arrived at the victim’s Clarks
Place residence and saw Walk
er running through the woods.
After several commands,
Walker stopped and lay on
the ground. He was placed
into custody and taken to the
Burke County Detention Cen
ter where he faces charges
including battery, family vio
lence, cruelty to children, ob
struction of a law enforcement
officer, and interference with
a 911 call.
The victim was treated for
her injuries at Burke Medical
Center.
