Life Lines
By Linda Lariscey
LEAVE SHAME AT THE DOOR
Then the angel showed me Joshua
the high priest standing before the
angel of the LORD. The Accuser,
Satan, was there... making accusations
against Joshua. 2 And the LORD said
to Satan, “I, the LORD, reject your
accusations, Satan. Yes, the LORD,
who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes
you. This man is like a burning stick
that has been snatched from the fire
(Zechariah 3:1-2 NLT).
Romans 9:33 tells us, "The one who believes in him (Jesus)
will never be put to shame." If we receive this precious
promise and confess its truth in our lives, we can escape
this world with its corruption and corrosive lies. Shame
corrupts. It destroys our ability to love, to have long-lasting
healthy relationships. It is the root of self-hatred and feelings
of unworthiness. Whatever you did to sully your character
may be as brief as a moment. Yes, moral failures can be
fleeting interludes, but the shame that remains can be a
stubborn stain.
Feelings of guilt can be healthy. When we fail the grace
of God, we grieve and want to make things right. We
understand that we did something terrible, and amends are
in order. But shame can surpass an emotional response to
become something people identify with and embody. Guilt
may say, "I did something bad,” while shame announces,
"I am bad." People who carry shame cannot fully succeed
in this life because, at their core, they believe they are
worthless.
The devil deals in shame. It’s his ace in the hole. He knows
it can destroy and twist every thought you have. He will
accuse and blame you for whatever you are willing to
accept. But the Bible tells us that God rebukes him and
rejects his accusations on your behalf. Jesus paid for you
with His precious blood. You are worth more than you
know, dear reader.
Are you ashamed, and you don’t even know why? Do you
know that in Christ, the Lord no longer remembers your
sin? As the old hymn says, "Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow." Jesus paid the price for you
to live free of condemnation and feelings of unworthiness.
Begin to align with the word and confess what it says about
you. Leave shame at the door and walk through the door
of hope that the Lord sets before you.

BCPS
Federal government for the re
maining 35% of those funds,”
Hickman said during the BCPS
COVID-19 Task Force meet
ing June 29. “Then they will be
allocated to the local education
agencies.”
The government mandates
that 20% of ARF funds must
be used to address learning
loss. In that regard, BCPS will
be reimbursed for its summer
2021 program. Funds will be
applied to the 2022-2024 sum
mer programs.
Additionally, approximately
$150,000 will be applied to
ward administering and using
high-quality tests to assess
students’ academic progress,
while approximately $150,000
will be used toward improv
ing student attendance and
engagement in distance-based
learning.
Another $900,000 will be
applied toward activities au
thorized by Federal statutes
like the Elementary and Sec
ondary Education Act of 1965,
Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act and the Adult
Education and Family Literacy
Act.
“Additionally, we are reserv
ing 1% to go strictly toward
addressing the needs of at-risk
populations,” Hickman said.
“These can be students with
disabilities, English language
learners, homeless students
and any of a number of at-risk
populations.”
BCPS will continue to pur
chase supplies to sanitize fa
cilities, including deep carpet
cleaning. The school system
has worked to replace many of
its traditional water fountains
with bottle-fill stations. Two
percent of the funds will be
applied toward sanitization.
“We do plan to go with more
bottle-fill stations and this
money will help with that,”
Hickman said.
Continued from front
With the uncertainty of the
future impact of COVID-19 on
classrooms, the school system
intends to be prepared. BCPS
will apply approximately
$900,000 toward prospective
long-term closures. Another
7% of the total amount will be
applied toward facility repairs
that reduce risk of virus trans
mission.
“We don’t know what is go
ing on with the Delta variant
six months down the road,”
Hickman pointed out. “Or any
other variants that might pop
up. There is the possibility
that when cooler weather rolls
around, things won’t look so
good for us anymore.”
BCPS will apply 1 % toward
mental health services.
“It’s going to be a while be
fore anybody realizes the toll
that this whole past year has
taken on kids,” Hickman said.
“So, I think it’s good to have
that money set aside to address
those areas.”
Less than half of the money,
40%, will be reserved for other
activities that are necessary to
maintain the operation of and
continuity of services and em
ploying existing staff.
“We are certainly one of the
fortunate school districts in
Georgia with regard to being
able to maintain continuity
of services just based on our
local funds, our tax digest,
the way our Board of Educa
tion budgets and plans for the
future,” Hickman said. “Not
every school system has been
that fortunate. I have looked at
some of their budgets where
the majority of their funding is
going to keep people at work,
and we are not having to do
that.”
As part of the ARF program
requirements, BCPS posted its
“Return to School Plan” on its
website.
