Enice Hendley Johnson
Ann Fuchs Tinley
James Carpenter
Enice Hendley Johnson, 87, entered into rest Friday, July
16, 2021. She was born in Jenkins County to the late Sallie
and Joseph Hendley and has
been a lifelong resident of Burke
County. She was a faithful mem
ber of Sardis Baptist Church and
of the Challenge Sunday School
Class. Enice retired from the
Burke County Board of Educa
tion, where she worked as a
paraprofessional. She loved to
help others, enjoy time spent with
family, and play cards with her
friends. She was a loving mother,
Nana, and Grandnana. In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
William F. Johnson, Jr.; a son, William “Bill” Johnson; two
brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ann Watford (Hu
bert) of Cochran and Patricia Chandler (Randy) of Sardis;
six grandchildren, Derek Watford (Ana) of Cochran, Wesley
Watford (Brandi) of Hawkinsville, William Johnson II of
Fayetteville, NC, Mitch Johnson of Cherry Point, NC, Jacob
Chandler (Lauren) of Sardis, and Haley Chandler (Jonathan
Hall) of Sardis; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Josie
Womack of Millen and Jimmie Elliott of Sardis; and family
friend, Anna Martin of Fayetteville, NC.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18 at
Sardis Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sardis Baptist
Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to
the service.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and Jonathan Hall. Honorary
Pallbearers will be the Challenge Sunday School Class.
Remembrances may be made to Sardis Baptist Building
Fund or a charity of one’s choice.

Fred Chambers, Jr.
Fred Chambers, Jr., 92, died peacefully at home, surrounded
by his family, on Monday, July 19, 2021. He was born on
October 12, 1928 in Deepstep,
Washington County GA. He
was one of seven children born
to Fred Chambers, Sr. and Mary
Wiggins Chambers. He learned
to be a farmer by helping his dad
dy on the farm and he developed
a love for the land that shaped
his entire life. Whether he was
on his tractor, digging in the dirt,
or harvesting his watermelons,
farming was more than a career.
He loved to share what he grew.
Fred was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and
camping and he loved his dogs.
Fred served his country in Korea and later became a member
of the American Legion.
He met Martha Ann Miles in the fall of 1953 and decided
very soon after that to ask her to be his wife. They were mar
ried March 5,1954.
Fred graduated from the University of Georgia in 1956 with
a B.S in Agronomy. He began his career with the Farmers’
Home Administration, and that eventually brought him to
Waynesboro. Later he became the Plant Manager of Kaiser
Chemical Company. After his retirement from Kaiser, he
established Burke Chemical Company with his friend, Ware
McCallum. No matter where he was, he served and advised
farmers all over Burke County and surrounding areas.
Fred and Martha were charter members of Rosemont Baptist
Church. He served in many capacities at Rosemont, teaching
Sunday School and serving as church treasurer, trustee, and
deacon. The church designated him Deacon Emeritus in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary
Floyd Cooke; and three brothers, James H. Chambers, Frank
Chambers, and Robert “Bobby” Chambers.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Martha; five
children, Carol Davis (Walker), Carlton Chambers (Becky),
Joan Perry (Kent), Tommy Chambers (Angela), and Laurie
Hilburn (Rusty); two brothers, Douglas Chambers and Ronny
Chambers; 12 grandchildren, Ben, Katherine, Andy, Ashley,
Amber, Stephen, Christopher, Lauren, Riley, Taylor, Alexa,
and Chandler; and by seven great grandchildren and one
more on the way.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Fred’s
caregivers: Lena Royal, Rose Landis, Bessie Jones, Taronda
Heggs, and Shirley Smiley.
The funeral service will be held at Rosemont Baptist
Church, 522 Hwy 25 Waynesboro, on Thursday, July 22 at
11:00 a.m., followed by a private burial. Family members
will greet friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will
be Henry Hopkins, Bobby Glisson, Sr., Tom Ryder, Kenneth
English, Ware McCallum, Grady Mobley, Charlie DeLaigle,
Shorty Mead, Rosemont Deacons, and members of the
American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations
be made to the Rosemont Baptist Church Vision Fund.

F. Tinley, Jr. entered into eternal rest Thursday, July 8,2021.
Her graveside service will be
held Wednesday, July 21,2021 in
the Beaufort National Cemetery,
1601 Boundary Street at 2:00 p.m.

Ann was born July 5, 1939
in Charleston, S.C., daughter of
the late Albert Frederick Fuchs
and the late Madelyn Muller
Fuchs. Ann's humor, sparkle and
charisma touched everyone she
encountered throughout her life.
She had a passion for healthcare and caring for others. Ann
was an example of strength, wisdom and courage to her family
and friends. She loved celebrations with her family, spending
time with friends, caring for her fur babies, gardening and
relaxing at the beach.
Lovingly remembered by her son, Frank "Chip" Free
(Linda McMillan Tinley) Tinley III of Goose Creek, S .C.; two
daughters, Susan Tinley Campagno and Lisa Tinley Ryan; six
grandchildren: Colleen Garrison, Tabitha Tinley Oliver (Adam
Oliver), Allissa Lauren Tinley, Nicholas Tyler Tinley, Brian
Dylan Campagno, Michael Connor Campagno; three great
grandchildren, Mason Garrison, Adalyn Garrison, Hazel Ann
Oliver; brother, Albert F. Fuchs, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank F. Tinley,
Jr.

Miriam Mallard Mitchell
Funeral Services for Ms. Miriam Mallard Mitchell, age
100, will be held on Thursday, July 22nd, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.,
at Burke Memorial Funeral Home. The Reverend Ernest
Johnson will be officiating. Burial will be at Burke Memorial
Gardens Cemetery.
Ms. Mitchell was a lifelong resident of Burke County and a
Homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband. F.L.
Mitchell and parents Will and Rena Mallard, and sister Dora
M. Hickman. She is survived by a son, Thomas (Bo John)
Mitchell, (Janice), one daughter,Maxine Hopper, Hiram. Ga.;
one granddaughter, Sonya Morris, Dallas, Ga.; three grand
sons, Tommy Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell, and Tim Hopper,
and one great-grandson, three great granddaughters, and one
great-great granddaughter.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, July
22nd, at 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Wren Elliott, Robin Elliott, Bobby Hick
man, Terry Hickman, Bob Hickman, and Drew Hickman.
