leads to arrest

A 19-year-old woman led
deputies on a high speed chase
that ended on the front lawn
of Popeye’s restaurant in Lou
isville.
According to a report from
the Burke County Sheriff’s
Office, deputies were traveling
behind a gray 2001 Hyundai
Elantra on Highway 24 West
whose gas cap was hanging
from the gas cover. As the pa
trol vehicle continued behind
the Elantra, its driver, later
identified as Sakiyah Alexan-
drie Ross, failed to stop at a
stop sign at the intersection
of Highways 24 and 305.
Ross then refused to stop after
deputies initiated patrol vehicle
lights and sirens, increasing
her speed in excess of 100
miles per hour. She traveled
in the opposite lane, forcing
other vehicles off the road, the
report said.
Burke County dispatch no
tified the Jefferson County
Sheriff’s Office of the situ
ation, and Ross disregarded
their presence as well as she
continued past Highway 1, fail
ing to stop at a red traffic light
at the intersection and then
losing control of the vehicle,
washing into a utility pole in
front of Popeye’s.
She was taken into custody
and charged with felony fleeing
or attempting to elude, failure
to stop at stop sign, driving on
the wrong side of the road and
driving without a license.
BCSO was notified by Chief
Ron Sellars with the Warren
County Sheriff’s Office that the
vehicle had been reported sto
len out of Warren County, and
he would be seeking a warrant
for Ross on theft by taking by
(motor vehicle).

Burke County deputies are
looking for a woman who
trashed her grandparents ’ home
and stole money and other
items from them.
According to a report from
the Burke County Sheriff’s Of
fice, deputies were dispatched
to Farmers Bridge Circle on
Saturday, July 30, in reference
to a burglary.
The victim, James Boyd,
stated he and his wife and
had just returned home from
a three-week visit to Tybee
Island to find their granddaugh
ter’s SUV and a pickup truck
in their driveway. Once inside,
they discovered “a white, slen
der build, brown haired male
hiding in the bedroom closet”
and their granddaughter, Lau
ren Stewart, 23, on the couch
“high as a kite.” Boyd said he
told the man to get the truck
out of his yard, at which time
the pair hooked it to Stewart’s
vehicle with a chain and drove
off.
According to the report,
Boyd said the patio door was
broken and the house was
trashed, a hole was in the wall,
clothing was missing and ap
proximately $300 in coins
was missing. Additionally,
several rounds of ammunition
had been moved from the shed
to inside the home, and the
shed “had been pried open and
ransacked.”
The victim also reported the
battery to his boat was missing
and that the gas tank had a large
hole cut in the center where
the gas was drained out of the
tank. His Dodge Ram pickup
truck had also been ransacked
and the CB radio and liner was
stolen, the report said. He also
found a checkbook belonging
to someone from Richmond
County inside his home.
He told deputies he was
unsure of the value of the cloth
ing, damaged property and
other items.
