Former School Superinten dent Rudy Falana and his wife Connie voluntarily instruct the free classes Wednesdays nights from 7-8 p.m. The group began three weeks ago but space is not limited. The Falanas intended to instruct the class year-round, however, it has been temporarily paused due to COVID-19 beginning this week. “We hope to promote bet ter health and better living,” President Marvin Scott said. “Everyone is welcome.” Once it starts back up, the classes are open to all ages but geared toward older adults. The focus of the group is on lowering weight and blood pressure. Educational informa tion about nutrition and diet will take place. Participants are encouraged to set a goal for desired weight loss. The group will join for a celebration din ner in December. “This community is kind of isolated,” Rudy said of Keysville. “They don’t have a lot of resources here and we are just trying to teach people how to improve their quality of life.” The low-impact exercises are designed to get people moving and instruct them on how they can easily workout at home during their daily routines. “I think this is a wonderful opportunity,” Connie said. “Just seeing these ladies and men out here and seeing the looks on their faces, that they are getting something done with their blood pressure and to help with their diabetes.” Participants are encouraged to bring a bottle of water, wear comfortable clothing and bring light hand weights if they desire.
