Inniss, also of Bluffton, SC. All who knew Joanne loved her, and she was happiest when she was serving others. An active member of The Church of The Cross, she sang in the choir, was a member of The Cross Christian Women, Daughters of The Holy Cross, and volunteered at every oppor tunity. Joanne loved the Word of God, and Bible Study was a part of her daily life. Whether in a formal group study or the solitude of her personal prayer closet, the well-worn pages of her Bible were her constant companion. Her life was lived as a testimony to her faith. Among the many activities she enjoyed as a resident of Sun City, Joanne was a member of The Sun City Community Theater, she sang with The Sun City Chorus team, and swam with the Synchronettes. She also loved to dance and would frequent the many Sun City gatherings with husband Mr. Jim Inniss; where they would “show off’ their many dancing moves to friends, neighbors, and other attendees! Joanne grew up in Waynesboro, Georgia, the daughter of Edwin and Mildred Fulcher. She had one brother, Edwin Fulcher, Jr. She attended Fimestone College in Gaffney, SC for 2 years before transferring to The University of Georgia in Athens, GA where she graduated in 1952 after being crowned UGA’s Pandora Beauty Queen. She was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and participated in many beauty and talent contests as a student at UGA. Joanne returned to Waynesboro in 1964 with her children, Jim, JoDelle, and Margaret Ann after being petitioned by the Burke County Board of Education to undertake the role of the county’s first Special Education teacher, and to develop a program for educating students in a way that provides accom modations to address the individual differences, disabilities, and special needs of exceptional children, which she did with the same enthusiasm and passion she gave to every endeavor she undertook. For the next 12 years, she would not only teach her special education students during the day, but she would also pursue furthering her own professional accreditation and education in the evenings; earning 2 additional Masters Degrees in the Special Education held from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. She retired with honors and a full pension from the Georgia Public School System, and went into retirement in Bluffton, SC, close to family, friends, her church and the low country lifestyle she loved so much.
