Life Lines
By Linda Lariscey
DANGER LONE RANGER
Yah weh's glory came into the house
by the way of the gate which faces
toward the east. The Spirit took me up,
and brought me into the inner court;
and behold, Yah weh's glory filled the
house.
Ezekiel 43:4-5 (WEB)
In Revelation 22:7, Jesus said, “Pay attention I am coming
soon!” He will return, and we should be living in light of that
every day. When He comes, He will come quickly without
delay. There will be no time for the “nominal Christian” to
clean up his act or the unbeliever to cry out for salvation.
Jesus simply instructed us to live our best life in Him and
continue to do so until He returns.
The Lord will split the eastern sky in all His glory, and all
people will see Him for who He is. As He bursts on the
scene, every believer in Him will also burst out His glory
within them. Jesus is coming back for His bride, who is all
glorious within. As you ask when Jesus is coming, Jesus
is asking you when you are coming. Return to Him, set
time aside with a repentant heart to seek His glory and His
purpose for your life.
Jesus once asked His followers if He would find faith on
the earth when He returned. As we return to God in this
season, the Lord will return to us. The assembly of the
saints must be a people called out from the world set apart
for His purposes. The pandemic, rooted in hell, covered the
earth, but heaven's desire is to see a global return of God’s
governmental glory. You will find it in the House that Jesus
is building. Are you an integral part of one?

BCPS
fingers. “It changed me in a
positive manner because I was
not only able to be a teacher,
I was able to learn from my
students.”
Students in general tend
to be technology-based, she
said. Due to the pandemic, a
lot of educators were forced
to make sure that their lessons
were technology-based. This
caused a reciprocated learning
environment. Pre-pandemic
Reddick saw an educator’s
role as one who only delivered
information to the students.
After the pandemic appeared,
she became more aware of a
reciprocated transfer of infor
mation. Also, teachers were
forced to use technology for a
generation of children who are
already geared toward video
games and computers.
“It only makes sense that
their education aligns with the
things that they enjoy doing,”
she said.
Online learning created a
need for BCPS to have an In
structional Technology coach,
a position that Reddick gra
ciously moved into.
“Teachers needed more sup
port with how to integrate
technology meaningfully in
the classroom,” she said. “So,
because I took to it and I actu
ally enjoy doing it, it was an
easy transition for me out of
classroom and into this new
position.”
Jami Walden is a first grade
teacher at Waynesboro Primary
School.
In 2020 she participated in
some online training and at the
time she thought it would be a
good addition to her classroom.
“Having no idea that would
become my classroom,” she
said. “It changed my perspec
tive from ‘this classroom is my
four walls, to my classroom is
this community or wherever
my students are.”’
She never dreamed when
her career began 16 years ago
that she could teach to so many
students in so many different
places at one time.
The pandemic brought the
need for open-mindedness.
Online learning changed her
role from teaching “her” stu
dents to teaching “our” stu
dents. It created more of a
team effort.
“There was no way to do it
on your own anymore,” she
said. “It really expanded our
networking and our working
together.”
She said pre-pandemic there
was a sense that if a subject
didn’t get tackled, it could al
ways be introduced later. The
uncertainly attached to face-
to-face classrooms brought an
urgency and a need to maxi
mize time.
“There was no time to
waste,” she said. “You didn’t
know if you would have two
more weeks in the classroom or
you were going home tomor
row or this student might not
be in class tomorrow.”
Walden said it changed her
perspective on an educator’s
role, bringing more balance
into the expectations. She real
ized a responsibility to contrib
ute to the students’ safety and
success.
“The balance of that really
changed,” she said. “Each year
when I teach, I think of a word
that defines that year, I think
balance will now be a word I
carry forward.”
She said she believes now
that a student will care more
about what a teacher knows
when they feel cared for by the
teacher. The pandemic taught
her to give more grace.
“We have to look at what we
Continued from front
are giving to our kids,” she said
shakily. “What are we asking
them to carry along with their
normal lives.”
Wanda Parrish, Principal at
Burke County Middle School,
pointed out that although the
pandemic is a negative, she has
fallen in love with some of the
changes she sees in her staff.
The pandemic transformed
how students and families are
served.
“While we were at home, it
gave us the time and the op
portunity to grow ourselves,”
she said. “I have been able to
do a lot of things to grow my
self as a leader and I’ve been
able to pass those things on to
the staff.”
The lapse in learning caused
the school system to take a
closer look at each student
individually to see where they
stood. It showed that every
student has their own story
and educators should take the
time to understand each child’s
story.
“We are doing different
things and we have different
structures in place to help them
close those gaps,” she said and
pointed out that not only are the
students getting more one-on-
one attention but they are also
being held more accountable.
It’s a win-win for the stu
dents and an approach that
Parrish feels is crucial for the
school system to keep in place
after the pandemic subsides.
“This is here to stay,” she
said. “This is what we should
be doing.”
The virus also magnified in
equity in broadband around the
county. It pointed out a digital
divide that needs to be closed.
It pushed the issue to the top
of the priority list for both the
county commission and the
school board.
“We need to fix it now,” she
said.
James Epps, Principal of
Blakeney Elementary School,
thinks the vims brought to light
the need to address reading
problems that existed pre
pandemic. Increased funding
illuminated paths to finding
robust and more uniformed
ways to tackle the issue.
“It’s really helped us to focus
in on that and not just say ‘well
good enough is good enough,”’
he said and pointed out that it
promoted teamwork to assist
students with reading as they
work their way up the grades.
“It’s going to change the way
that we do business across the
board.”
The pandemic has had a pro
found impact on switching the
focus from graduating numbers
of students to one on reading
levels and abilities. He cred
ited Superintendent Angela
Williams with instilling the
passion for increasing students’
reading abilities that trickled
down among faculty and was
perpetuated by increased pan
demic funding.
“The pandemic just shined
a brighter light on certain
things,” Parrish added. “With
us knowing how many kids
are suffering and behind, we
can no longer wait on this and
we have all this funding, let’s
make it happen now.”
Epps said although the pan
demic brought on much hard
ship, it brought the teachers
closer together to address stu
dents’ needs.
“People are really focusing
on what’s important today,
because we don’t know what
is going to happen tomorrow,”
he said. “It’s more important
than ever, to address what you
can do today.”
